are there any good sites for tips on painting animal minis? I'm looking for help with things like bears, wolves, tigers, etc. All of the sites I've found so far have concentrated on people or vehicles, so if you have any info, I'd appreciate it....
I don't think so... but the trick is to get a book with several pictures of the animal you want to paint.. then it is just a case of using the same techniques (inking, drybrushing...etc) to duplicate the effects.
National Geographic is my favorite source for this sort of material. Probably because I have about a decade of it lying around the house, so all sorts of animals are available. Anyway, look over the picture and then use the same techniques you use on a human; if you drybrush hair then you know how to drybrush fur etc.
One thing to notice is that there is a lot of subtle variation in an animals coloration. Dont be afraid to get out several different layers of color in order to achieve this sort of effect.
