D&D 4E Paizo and 4e.

What i find particular funny is that some guys on the Paizo boards start to praise Paizo as a kind of flagship of oldschool gaming, throwing snarky comments and insults against people who are excited about 4th Edition and generally behaving in a grognardy manner, while ignoring the fact that Paizo Products feature most of the anime inspired artwork in 3rd Edition. :D

And given that, as goes D&D, so goes the RPG industry, it's probably a pretty bad thing for people to keep hoping for. You think your FLGS is hanging on by a thread now? Take away 60 percent or more of the RPG market and see how it's doing.
Wow. Is that ever not what I said.

I never siad I hope for 4e to fail. Matter of fact, I am looking forward to 4e. Not, however, blindly without any reservations. Which is why I went out of my way to say that I was not saying that I thought 4e would fail.

I think it's funny because it's the spawning pool of the 3.5 grognard. They're so *CUTE* when they're young!

I'd like to know how many reservations we have to have before we are considered blindly following fanboys.

What should we not like? What should we be apprehensive about?

Please, tell us what criteria should be set that distinguishes sheep from you, Darkwolf71? Gimmie a litmus test for not being a blind follower.

It also occurs to me that Paizo's distribution deal with Necromancer helps to cover all bases for them, as well. :) They're doing a good bit of 3.5 product for the next year, AND they've got a cut of the new 4E products that Necromancer plans to put out.

A Pathfinder RPG (if its OGL) would be something I am interesed in

Now I have to say, this would be a most interesting thing. One of the big hopes I had when Midnight and Arcana Unearthed came out was that we'd see more 'Alternate Player's Handbooks' with all-new takes on the classes and races. I would be very, very interested in seeing what the brains at Paizo would do in coming up with such a beast, even if it was 3.5-based.

It is my impression that Paizo is setting itself up as the anti-4e company, aided by the fans on its forums.

Does anyone else get this impression?

Cheers!

I don't get this impression from Paizo at all.

They are, IMO, producing the most creative and highest quality 3.5/OGL work out there right now. I will continue to snap up every 3.5 compatible product they publish, and I intend to complete my Goodman Games DCC collection largely through Paizo mail order over the next 3-4 months.

But it's sheer folly to expect them to hold to some sort of anti-4e business stance when that's the direction the industry is moving right now. It doesn't make me (a 4e skeptic) all that thrilled, but Paizo has to stay in business, and following the 4e trend is the most likely way to stay in business.

Wow, it seems to me that some folks just want to be offended. I was replying to Whizbangs placment of words in my mouth, now here you are putting implying something else that I didn't say. You want a litmus test? Try not getting your feelings all hurt about some percieved insult that just-isn't-there.

Then why say "blindly following" at all, if you weren't trying to call attention to it?
