Pathfinder 1E Paizo no longer publishing Dungeon and Dragon

But... Pathfinder. It sounds cool. It probably *will* be cool. Now to scrape up the money to subscribe. You guys do offer international subscriptions, don't you? And the postage will be more reliable than that for your magazines?

Hey, Merric.

Yes, we'll offer international subs. And since we're not shipping them via periodical rate, they'll be much more reliable. You'll actually have a whole host of shipping options including overnight (if you need it in a hurry!).

Subscription:
The discount on Pathfinder is noted as being 30%, but in the product description is noted as being 40%.
Which is the correct percentage?

30%

The text has been corrected but your instance of the website hasn't been refreshed yet so it's showing the wrong bit. Sorry about that.

I did not see you as a vendor for KublaCon in San Francisco this year. Why aren't you going this year? Also, can you still sell items like D&D shot glasses and Dungeon Magazine T-Shirts? Did you make those items, or did someone else make them? I can't seem to find them anywhere else.

KublaCon just wasn't in the cards for us this year. Not going to Kubla has nothing to do with this announcement. WotC has graciously allowed us to sell through anything we currently have in stock--books, shot glasses, shirts, back issues, etc.

Thanks, Joshua!

Actually, "overnight" would pretty much sum up how I *don't* need them shipped. Better than 3 months for an issue to reach me would be good, though. :)

One problem with the new format is that it looks like producing more adventure path adventures than I have time to run them... what a horrible problem. ;)

Cheers!

Well, folks, I've happily made myself available for all manner of questions today, but now I'm (un)dead tired. I'll be heading home now and will be back in this thread again tomorrow morning to continue the question train.

Don't get too crazy without me. :-)

Fine. I'll just buy them on interest basis only. But if the format is more Dungeon-like than Dragon-like, I may not be interested at all.

I hate to ask, but is the cover price still the same as any one Dragon or Dungeon issue?
Each Pathfinder is 50 pages of adventure and, presumably, 46 pages of support material. It is an adventure path from 1-15 at least, set in some Paizo setting for which there is no information. Each volume is $19.95.

I feel very sick.

This is so wrong.

Dragon and Dungeon change around there format. It is a huge success and now this happens!?!

It's a frustrating move, and will be made even more so if the changes that have made the magazines the current gems they are aren't carried over into the new online format.

Personally, I'm more unhappy to see Paizo no longer controlling the creative direction, than I am to see an online format.

At first I was really mad to "lose the magazines", and then I started reflecting that for a year or two I've wanted PDF versions to help me save on shelf space. It gives me mixed feelings, because I feel I'd be hypocritical if I slam wotc for the electronic part of their initiative. I'd rather have PDF than online, though I can see how they could make an online idea really come to life. In some ways though, I don't get why certain content will be better suited to their online presence than to print products. Why not just publish it if they're writing it? And why give things away only to start charging for them after years of having one type of relationship with your customers?

And, I don't like the tone of this statement from the WotC press release - “Today the internet is where people go to get this kind of information,” said Scott Rouse, Senior Brand Manager of Dungeons & Dragons®, Wizards of the Coast.

I've been getting my info from the magazines, and am honestly kind of attached to seeing something arrive in my mailbox.

I also won't like if WotC starts charging me (especially if they try to charge me more than I was paying for the magazines) for the parts they are currently giving away on their web site, or if they scale back on that content in favor of putting every scrap of content possible into the online product.

Despite how this irritates me, I'm willing to give their online format a look, but they'll have to meet a high bar for me to be impressed, probably even for me to not be disappointed.

Wow.

The whole thing is very surprising (and sad) to me.

One question - I don't suppose there's a way to keep OOTS on the last page of the Pathfinder books (or other Paizo offering), is there?

The money that show brought in wasn't worth having our sales guy out of the office for a week, basically.

We'll still be selling all of that other stuff for as long as we've got 'em. The Dungeon T-shirts and Dragon shot glasses were ours. The super-awesome "alignment" D&D shot glass you sometimes see was a promotional freebie for the 3e launch distributed at that Gen Con. The T-shirts and Dragon shot glass are, I believe, available now at paizo.com in the "Paizo Exclusives" section.
