Well...

Thanks for saving my 8 Bucks a Month WotC.

I've bought every issue since the Last Staple Bound one. With the Dragon CD, I have every issue.

So, the Dead Tree is gone & you are going Electronic.

Umm, you realize you have yet to have a Single Sucessful D&D Port to the Electronic Medium (Video Games not Withstanding).

The Dragon CD is Atrocious (I only open the Various PDF's of each Issue).

The FR Atlas was nice, though you didn't develop it, just drew maps into CC Format.

E-Tools. Which both Blew & Sucked.

And, I don't pay for anything on Websites.

Bye, I wish I could say "Best of Luck", but if it flops, maybe I'll get my magazine back.

(I should adopt a Wait & see Attitude, but as I have 0.00% Interest in an Eletronic Format, this is pretty much useless to me).

I really hope this isn't Viacom Profit Maximization Strategy at work (Basically MTV/VH1, you just put some cheap crap on, air it 90,000 times a week & you are ensured reasonable Profit Stream).

So,

Bye. 30 Years down the Drain.

Curious as to what happens if this flops harder than Chainmail (the mini game).

I wrote that too at the WotC board (people angry there too), and someone replied that the top exec at WotC is formerly from Coke.
Former Coke ad exec. Lured to WotC by Hasbro, after the fallout of Anthony Valterra.

For the record, I didn't want Anthony gone, but with his name attached to the Erotic Fantasy Roleplaying Game, you guys want cleaner image of WotC.

Guess what? They're cleaning up WotC.

What??? But...these magazines (well, Dragon, anyway) have always been around. Always. Now WotC just decides it's time to just up and kill it? I thought WotC making adventures was a good thing, now I know it's not. In fact, I've bought my last WotC book. Screw 'em.

Paizo was formed when WotC figured out the magazines weren't profitable enough. WotC hasn't really said "why" the deal is done, and I doubt they will since they really don't have anyone handling PR. Paizo is small enough that employee's can speak for the company to some extent, but of course none of them are yelling "WotC screwed us on this one!".

We don't have all the facts, just supposition, so I won't brand WotC as some evil corporation who set out to destroy the magazines in order to squeeze out there profit online. For all I know, Paizo was moving away from the magazines for a while and WotC is reacting to them.

Anyway, life goes on, and so does D&D. It's a shame Dragon won't go with it, but I think Dragon has had one foot in the grave for a long time.

* Will Pathfinder be full color? If so, will it be on the same paper stock as the magazines have? I loved Dragon Compendium for content, but did not like the 'flimsy' pages.

Pathfinder will definitely be in full color and will have a significantly thicker paper stock than the magazines. We're building it to be durable.

* Is subscribing to the GameMastery monthly modules an option? If so, can remaining subscription credits be applied as in the Pathfinder option? While Pathfinder sounds interesting, I think that GameMastery modules will be more immediately useful to me. And, I am Mike McArtor's b****. ;) How will I live without my monthly Class Acts, man??

We do not currently offer a subscription for our monthly GameMastery Modules, but this would be a rather obvious development and we're definitely looking into it. I can say with certainty, however, that we will not be adding this option prior to the last issues of the magazines and the launch of Pathfinder.

I'm not sure how you'll live without Class Acts, but I wish you the best of luck. I'll also remind you that there are still four issues of Dragon left, so you needen't worry for a while.

* I get that Paizo cannot use WOTC IP anymore, which bums me immensely, as I am all about the funky class combos (e.g. Half-Illithid Scout/Warmage) which are just not possible with SRD materials. Will Paizo be creating its own IP to fill in classes/races/etc.? Or, will you use any 3rd party material? I would just get bored with the plain vanilla SRD stuff very quickly.

We will be doing both of these things.

However it plays out, I will stay around as a customer. I like your products, and love your fan support. Thanks, Erik, especially. :D

Thank you, especially. :)

Exactly. But that is not to be. Plus they could have a double print/more page copy for their final issue. Maybe even double up on articles...

Ranger,

I couldn't care less about Book of Erotic fantasy. It wasn't my thing and it sure as hell shouldn't have been WotC's management call. Anthony might not have been board savvy but he SURE as hell did good work. Now this...

Voc,

Life may go on. But it's like seeing a massacre in real life. It STILL sucks the life from you.

Dragon has been rising in subscribers and sales consistently since I took over, especially in the last year. The magazine did not have "one foot in the grave," but indeed was being hailed by lots of readers as being better than it had been in years. We were very pleased with the financial picture.

I can't speak for Wizards on this issue, but I can say with certainty that your speculations are considerably off base as far as Paizo is concerned.
