Paladin and Armor

That's 'cos D&D characters live in a universe wherein everything is done in turn-based format.
For us, it makes no sense 'cos we don't live in such a world.
For them, it's the laws of physics.

Then theres a problem. If the rules make it impossible to do anything before someone has moved 5 feet away when watching carefully for them to do just that, then DnD characters have the slowest reflexes imaginable.

The rules don't make it impossible to do anything before someone has moved 5 feet away, as long as that 'anything' is an immediate interrupt, rather than an immediate reaction.

The rules are quite explicit that an immediate reaction can interrupt movement, but only after they have moved at least one square.

The movement of the character from B2 to A3 gives the enemy attack of opportunity?

You need to go through square B3 in order to get to A3. The enemy counts as "blocking terrain" and you can't move diagonally across blocking terrain. Since that's 2 squares of movement, you need to either shift twice (2 move actions for most people) or else just move (which provokes opportunity attacks).

Sorry, but that's incorrect.

PHB p. 283 said:
Moving diagonally works the same as other movement, except you can’t cross the corner of a wall or another obstacle that fills the corner between the square you’re in and the square you want to move to. You can move diagonally past most creatures, since they don’t completely fill their squares.

Unless the enemy in question is a gelatinous cube or similar square-filling critter, you can shift diagonally past it.

Only if he's a gelatinous cube!

Well shoot, we've been doing that wrong for 9 sessions now. Thanks for setting me straight, ENWorld!

Now I need to fire my rules lawyer...
