Paladin and his mount

First Post
ok everyone so my DM has put me in a rough situation. I recently called my mount but he wont let me dismiss it. He says that the horse is perminant untill it dies. For some reason he dislikes the ability for me to be able to dismiss it and call it back when needed. He also told he that if my horse dies than i am going to suffer BIG TIME. Now i know this is unfair. The worst thing of all is that my DM is TRYING to kill my horse, and ive had to go out of the way several times b/c my horse was being attacked!!!!

I guess im just letting you all know that my DM is a ratbastard and i hate him for what he is doing to me.

So i guess the new question is : Has your DM ever done anything like this to you....doesnt have to be paladin players, or deal with animals, just wondering if you have something that you cant loose or you get in trouble.

Sounds like you might as well find the safest town/city in the world, and leave your mount behind at a children's petting zoo. You won't be able to take the mount on most adventures anyhow, and this way you can at least avoid the penalties for the mount dying.

That or get your mage buddy to use some arcane magic (privately researched?) to be able to shrink your mount down to "pocket size" and "regrow" it at will. Pichachu, I choose you!

and to make matters worse...my paladin is currently being hunted by the F***ING ARMY of GIAS ( forget how to spell it). Crimes include : treason, MASS murder, being tainted, trying to kill some noble people, and tons of more stuff.

Now my DM apparently hates paladins more than the devil, or maybe he sees paladins as the devil. I know im innocent of these crimes and so do the players i play with.

What should i do?

What should you do?

a) Talk to your DM about this and tell him that it appears unfair to take away this ability mid-game (perhaps he has some secret plot reason and he isn't trying to screw you).

b) If it isn't a temporary thing, find out what he has against your character or your character's class abilities.

c) Take it as a challenge to survive in spite of his efforts to destroy you and your mount.

d) Offer to change characters (or class) in order to play something that he doesn't have a problem with.

e) Find a DM who will run a game more in line with your interests.

What should the DM do (or have done):

a) If he doesn't like one of the RAW, he should explain his position pre-game, not mid-game. This way characters can be made that will keep their abilities throughout their careers.

b) If he learns mid-game that he dislikes a rule, discuss this with the players. The players may agree to change, but if they don't then allow them to keep their powers (remember, they created the character with certain assumptions - like keeping their abilities). Then rule that future characters would be changed to your new rules (they may decide to just avoid the class in the future, or they may create characters under your new guidelines).

c) If the problem is not that big, ignore it. Don't change a thing. You can always avoid using the rules for your NPCs, but you don't need to nerf the PCs. It isn't DM vs. PC, so you don't need to try and nullify their abilities.

Just some random (or not so random) thoughts...

ok this is what ive done so far.... I TURNED MYSELF IN!!!! I didnt fight, didnt try to prove them wrong (yet) and just "went for the ride". Now im tied, gaged, and blindfolded in the back of a cart somewhere. Which is totally fine with me right now.

If im killed for these actions everyone will burn in hell for killing an innocent man.... I would also probably curse them with my last dying words (Maybe). My diety would know im innocent and i would spend the rest of eternity with him, which is probably better anyway.

Honestly? Find a new DM.

My advice would be to attempt to reconcile any differences before taking this step. This is the sort of thing that I have done in the past, only to find out too late that some open communication would have made a world of difference. I'm not saying that this situation will work out, but it is worth trying.

This is advice that I have had to take in regards to jobs and relationships, but I think that it carries over to the gaming table as well.

honestly i dont see why me not being able to dismiss my mount would be part of the plot for our characters. I learned of this rule change during game play. We went to go into a dungeon and i started to dismiss my horse and call him we we left the dungeon. Well it didnt work that way. He told me upfront that if something happened to my horse that i would suffer.

It does sound an awful lot like the DM doesn't like the Paladin's Mount ability as defined in the PHB. Instead of dealing with the rules or waiting to make changes after your character is dead, he appears to be making changes during play (which is unfair to the character that is affected).

TOTALLY AGREE!!!!

when asked why he is doing this he said "Cause i said so, thats why" amd he got very defensive about it. "I make the rules and you have to live by them". So as you can see im royally pissed off
