Paladin/Battlemind Help

Salukiknight

First Post
I've played a little 4th ed, but its been a couple years. So I'm hopping back into it and I'd like a little help.

6th level Dwarven Paladin/Battlemind
STR 13
CON 19
DEX 11
INT 11
WIS 16
CHA 16
(after both level 4 points)

Right now, my biggest difficulty is in feats. I'm trying to make him a solid defender with divine sanction, divine challenge, and the battlemind mark (forgot the name atm).
Level 1 Feat: Hybrid Talent - Paladin Armor Procificency (Yay plate!)
Level 3 Feat: Dwarven Racial Weapon Proficiency
Level 5 Feat: ????

I'm running Diplomacy, Insight and Heal for my skills. I haven't dished out the characters gold yet, just trying to get a good handle on his overall build right now. Love to get ANY opinions you might have, on At-Wills or any aspect.

What level are you starting at? Remember that you get feats at level 1 and even levels. You obviously need either axe or hammer expertise. Superior Will is great for a guy that runs on minor actions. For your powers, I would say to start out with Virtuous Strike (for OAs and playing nice with warlords) and Conductive Defense (because OMG awesome).

6th level. Dwarven. Paladin/Battlemind

So I guess I should have feats for

1st Level: Hybrid Talent - Paladin Armor Proficiency
2nd Level: Dwarven Weapon Training
4th Level: ????
6th Level: ????

I don't have access to my character builder here at work, so I'm not 100% on the At-Wills I'm going with to start.

I don't have the books in front of me, so...

1) Why burn hybrid talent getting armor? Are the hybrid armor options on battlemind such that you need that as opposed to just taking an armor proficiency feat down the road? You might find one of the other hybrid benefits better.

2) After taking one of the nastier hammers for your dwarf, look into hammer Expertise.

3) there are some decent feats building upon dwarves & healing surges- check out Dwarven Durability and Psionic Toughness.

My first question: Why do you want to be a hybrid Battlemind|Paladin in the first place? I don't see too much synergy between the classes and they do roughly equivalent jobs. I'd recommend going straight Battlemind for a dwarf and using multiclass feats to get the Paladin feel.

Danny:

1) Paladins are allowed Plate, Battlemind is not. So I went with that because it covers the whole gambit. I guess if I the only difference is plate, I could just take a Plate Armor Prof feat. But I don't think any of the other hybrid talents were extremely awesome themselves. I had considered not taking it and using a lighter armor (note my less than colossal strength), but it wouldn't gain me any AC via dex (not my even less good dex).

2) So DWT, and later either Hammer or Axe Expertise to stack some buffs? Check.

3) Dwarven Durability is on the list. I'm very tempted by it. But I wanted to ask around a bit.

Neon, this is a very RP based group that I'm new to, and trying very hard not to power game. For RP reasons, I am considering the Paladin/Battlemind hybrid. To run the Paladin side, I'm going to try to stick to divine sanction abilities and cha/wis based attacks. Avoid all str based attacks completely.

But I don't think any of the other hybrid talents were extremely awesome themselves

I'd still take the Armor prof over the Hybrid talent feat if they deliver the same thing. HT may be able to deliver something you hadn't considered when you first designed the PC.

Well, the Armor Prof just gives me plate.
The HT: Paladin Armor Prof gives me ANY Of the outliers between the two. Otherwise I'm stuck to only whatever the BM & Paladin have in common. (Which the only outlier might very well be Plate, going home to the books soon)

I'll glance back over the HT Options too.

Options on Hybrid Talent are as follows
Battlemind Armor Prof (same a paladin, minus plate)
Battlemind: Either Battle Resilience: 1 turn gain 3+wis mod resistance to all damage
OR
Speed of Thought: Free action to move 3+cha mod squares when you roll initiative.

Both being Encounter Powers.

Paladin gets me one of the Channel Divinity abilities:
Divine Strength - Str mod as extra damage on next attack.
Divine Mettle - Give someone my cha mod to save.

Plate, I wear all day, all the time, forever. Every round. Alternate options are encounter powers.

What is the personality of your character? I mean what archetype are you going for? That would help me at least get a feel of what you are going for :p
