Paladin vs Fighter: Who is the better Defender?

(*) Divine Challenge reads very strange. It says I mark the target, but it also says "Close burst 5". And then it says "one creature in the burst."

Why exactly is it a burst if it only effects one creature?

It's a burst so it can have the Close designation (meaning that it doesn't trigger OAs).

It would trigger OAs if it was simply Ranged 5 for example.

What the hell is DPS? I'm assuming it's WoW speak but you shouldn't use slang from another game if you want to be understood clearly.

I expect that Paladin are better at focusing a solo's attention on him. Fighter are a better protection overall for the weaker party members. In most fight, a wizard will be better protected if sticks close to the fighter than the paladin, IMO. Paladin facing more than one foes aren't as good at keeping them at bay.

Of course, paladins brings other things to the table.
