Paladin Warhorse

I won't mind if it's simply a spell, spell like or supernatural ability to teleport your mount to you and then back at need. That would work very well, IMOH (as an added power of the 3E mount, I mean).

If this is the only way to access your mount, though, it's lame lame lame. Might make some sense if you automaticaly get an outsider (celestial) mount, otherwise it's kind of silly...

I like the mechanic personally, but I don't like the time limit. While the summon once per day is great to me, I don't want a horse that is only around for 2 hrs!!

It's 2 hrs per Paladin level. So by the time you can summon the mount at 5th level, you're already talking about a 10 hour time period.

Operator: This is Order of All That Is Lawful and Good tech support. How may I help you?

Paladin: I accidently summoned my giant squid mount into the middle of a desert! I think he's dying!

Operator: ...

Paladin: He landed on the blackguard so we won the fight, but the wizard thinks that since Percy is on land he's being crushed under his own weight or something.

Operator: Percy? Sigh... He'll probably die from dehydration or suffocation first.

Paladin: Percy, Noooooooo! Umm dehuffodration what?

Operator: Ask the wizard.

Paladin: Noooooooo! So can I unsummon him or is he here for a certain amount of time? Will he just 'port away into the ether or is he going to have to drag his mass over the horizon in some gallant fashion.

Operator: ...
I'll have to transfer you to our aquatic mounts operator, please hold.

Paladin: Noooooooo! Percy!

I can dig it. :)

I would say that it plenty of time to have the thing around for. I'm curious about the ability to "unsummon" it if needed. Does it regain HP, etc? Curious minds want to know.

So whats the prefered weapon for an octapus riding Paladin anyway? Trident perhaps? Truly unfortunate when Paladins make such mistakes though.....If only the champions of good would stop skimping on their Intelligence scores.

This part especially made me laugh SO hard!! :D

This said, I like the new Paladin mount. And I agree it should be a "celestial" one, that it would make sense.

OMFG. Dude, I'm coughing up a lung, I'm laughing so hard!

I think it's a crappy idea... This helps the Paladin how, exactly?

Sure, it gets around the problem of getting the mount through the dungeon entrance - and then what? You still have to deal with narrow doors, pits, collapsed passages, etc., and they haven't done anything to make the mount any more use in standard D&D combat (the kind that doesn't involved huge amounts of open space for making use of Ride-by Attack with your trusty lance) than it currently is. I don't remember ever seeing any dungeon combats in which the characters would have been better off mounted, it's just something that doesn't work in close quarters.

Not to mention that it's a total nightmare in terms of suspension of disbelief and just plain goofiness for those of us that care about that kind of stuff.

So, ahh....sure, sure, I can dig the dramatic entrance. The horse suddenly popping up as the character awakens, unaware of his location, but his trusty steed there all the same.

It's the poofing off that I don't dig. The fact that the mount is no longer a steed and companion, but a limited duration spell. That it ceases to be the paladins equivalent of a familiar or animal companion, but a beefed up act of conjuration. If a paladin could rely on his horse always being on hand, but a whistle or hoot away, well, hey, cool. However, once it becomes nothing more than an object of convenience, as opposed to a beloved companion, well....ugh. The more I see of the revision....bleah.
