Here's what Bill Coffin thinks of the Palladium situation, for those who care (have it bookmarked, I do, because it's a hella funny read, true or not).

I just read that link. It does explain alot. Personally i think rifts was probably the coolest idea behind a D&D setting as there has ever been. Only thing that ever came close for me is ravenloft. It was a huge ambitios project though, and this link explained alot of why there are flaws in the work. They really should just give in and do a basic updated RPG book. Doesnt even have to be D20. Having to buy 20 books just to get the patches for busted rules is prohibitively expensive though, as well as stupid.
I hope they get it together. Its a great idea.

Emulating MDC in d20:

Armor becomes Damage Reduction X/-, or you could call it something simpler, like Resiliency X.

Anything that has MDC Armor has Damage Division 100, where all damage is divided by 100 (and discard the remainder) before it's applied. You could elaborate this to Damage Division 10, 25, 50, 13, or whatever else you wanted if you were willing to make your players buy pocket calculators. We'll call this Damage Tolerance (or just 'Tolerance') so it'll sound better.

So, someone with MDC 10 armor would have Resiliency 10 and Tolerance 100. I suppose you could write it as Resiliency 1000 and Tolerance 100, it depends which one you apply first. But basically, there are a lot of ways to fool around with how damage is applied. You can divide it, you can subtract it, you can cap it, you can even (if you're daring!) take the logarithm of it as a function of various bases. No reason to arbitrarily say that MDC is beyond the pale of d20. It's a very simple mathematical trick of division. Your MDC weapon deals 1d6x100 damage. Poof, all fixed.

WOW! I can't wait till "Rifts:Greenland" comes out!

I did use some of Palladiums world for my old 2nd ed. homebrew. Although, the wolfen were barbaric, not roman. And the "Eastern Kingdom" was a few different ones, with actual names. I remember Deaths Kiss. I think one of the players had it. Palladium isn't all bad. Just mostly bad. Wound't it be nice if KS sold off his company, and some other company bought out the rights for everything and made a d20 conversion? Ahhhh..Rifts d20. I'm sure i could swing it with the d20 modern and future, but I don't have the time for that.

Lol palladium had some neat ideas. But when you take away lasers and missiles alot of thier creatures are waaaayyy too hard to kill. Imagine trying to kill something with 800 HP with a D8 longsword. It would take some serius conversion. I dont like most of thier classes either. The rifts world was an interesting campaign setting though.

The Palladium Fantasy, the first edition, was very D&D based and this wasn't really a problem.

The second edition borrows/updates heavily to the Rifts game engine and added the various hand to hand styles from that engine (the old one used different tables for almost everything) and some other changes.

Hit points and other bits were fairly easy to convert back in the day.

So has anyone else ever converted the Palladium Fantasy setting to the D&D one? I know I took stuff for AD&D 1st and 2nd edition and have used the various gods and other bits in my 3rd ed campaign.

I've had the circle charts and sigils show up in games as cool window dressing. I used mechanical stuff from palladium before when I was running 1e and it was easy to convert. I haven't done so in 3e. The black dragon god Kysanth (?) made a showing in a game I played in as a BBEG worshipped him. I think the demons and demon lords are very cool and worth converting and using but I have not done so.

You might want to check out...

You might want to take a look at Deathstalkers II (not Deathstalkers 2nd Edition). The original Deathstalkers game was very much a Palladium clone, mechanically speaking. DSII is an OGL reiterration of the original Deathstalkers game, thus by design, it does a lot of the conversion work for you. In fact, having just recently read through my copy of DS II, I think that with the exception of a few missing races, you can use it to run games in Palladium's Old Kingdom as written.

Hmm. I have no interest in Palladium Fantasy, but would like to use some Palladium superhero material (Century Station, especially) in my Mutants & Masterminds game. The setting fluff is self-explanatory, but would love to convert the mechanics- especially NPCs. Would the Deathstalkers II OGL give me enough to use reasonably well to do that? I know nothing about the Palladium game system itself, so I am not sure if the Fantasy rules and Superhero rules are the same (or very similar) enough that I could extrapolate a conversion...?

I'm really only familiar with the Palladium system as it appears in Palladium Fantasy, so I'm not sure I can answer that question. What I can do, however, is link you (and anybody else interested) to the download section of the publisher's site:

http://www.cuttersguild.com/DSdownloads.htm

Near the bottom of the page linked to above, you will find all of the DSII OGC available in a .zip file (it contains individual RTF documents). This might help you to make a determination on your own.

I would love a nice conversion of the Diabolist and Summoner classes. The flavour of those classes is awesome, and I used them a lot as trappings for my home-brew for years. I was also a fan of a lot of the races, and even the setting overall. I ran more than a few games of Palladium Fantasy back in the day...
