Pally range dailies?

Paladins are hands-down the worst designed class in the first PH; setting aside how weak their mark is, there are significant gaps in the choices available to both builds, but the strength build in particular
A pure STR paladin build is going to be problematic. A CHA/STR paladin, particularly of the Dragonborn variety (CHA 18/STR 16 at 1st level), works fine.

The paladin mark isn't very effective, but, practically speaking, I haven't found it to make much of a difference during play.

My pally is a front line defender and I went with radiant delirium since it was charisma based and had some decent debuffs. To my suprise and lack of full reading the "range" description, I went into battle and got up in a bosses face with it!!

So, what about this makes it a bad power? Just use it when you're not in melee. Or, better yet, if you're deep in melee, shift back and use it. It's probably a great power that could complement your build quite well. You just need to learn how to use it.

-Fighters- are front-line defenders. -Wardens- are front-line defenders. Both of them work, in one way or another, directly with adjacency and require it for their marks to work. In return, they have punishments that lock opponents in place.

Swordmages and Paladins are versatile defenders. They can move around the battlefield as necessary and aren't required to stay in one position to defend. It's a different style.

That said, Cha-Paladins defend through buffing/debuffing. They get the stronger powers in terms of reducing their opponent's capabilities and increasing their own parties. They can also afford to put points into Wisdom so they can Lay on Hands more often, another way of negating enemy damage.

Besides, paladins have had ranged prayerss in 3rd edition. Searing Light, y'all.
