Tales of the Caliphate Nights is now at the printers! We expect to have the book in hand for Origins.

A Thousand and One Adventures Await!

The stories come from Arabia, Persia, India, even China. They tell not only of fearsome djinni and fantastical palaces, but also of profound spiritual insight and transformation. They reflect the enormous Islamic civilization during the ninth to thirteenth centuries, which stretched from Spain across North Africa to Cairo, across the Arabian peninsula, up to Damascus and Baghdad, further north to Samarkand, across what is now Afghanistan, down into India, and beyond. A traveler could wander across this vast region speaking Arabic, studying and praying in mosques, and trading with fellow Moslems. The stories are decadent, prejudiced, and fantastical, as well as redeeming, illuminating, and grounded. The stories are best known as the Thousand and One Nights.

I'm not sure how I should interpret the sales pitch. Is this a "setting", or is this an adapatation of the "1001 Nights" stories into d20 format? Or is this a setting that just heavily draws on the stories for its history, etc...

Hello Treebore,

Tales of the Caliphate Nights is not an adaptation of the 1001 Arabian Nights. Tales of the Caliphate Nights is two settings in one, really. The author, Aaron Infante'-Levy, has done an amazing job in translating the world of the ancient Caliphates of the 7th Century AD into a game source book/setting. Additionally, he added the fantastic/legendary elements that are so finely detailed in the 1001 Arabian Nights tales in a modular fashion that can be seamlessly dropped into one's campaign setting. So one can either run a purely historical campaign or one which has the more fantastic elements of a good Sinbad movie.

But wait, there's more...

Tales of the Caliphate Nights also adds some pretty innovative game mechanics to Green Ronin's True 20 system such as the use of the "Framed Story".

Actually, Aaron answers your question and more in the TotCN FAQ. It can be found at the following URL: http://www.paradigmconcepts.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=41&Itemid=2

I can't wait to get the print verison of Caliphate Nights. This looks like an outstanding campaign setting.

Paradigm Concepts kicks ass.

Thanks! That Q & A was very good! I'll definitely be picking this up! July release is also my B-day, so I bet I can get my wife to buy it for me.

:D Many thanks for the kind words!

The book is at the printer so if you're planning on attending Oigins, you'll be able to get it straight from the printer's case.

If not, it will be going through the Retailer Chain right afterwards. So, sometime in July would be a good estimate.

Thanks again!

Well, Happy Birthday in advance. And I couldn't think of a better B-Day gift for you! :)

Thanks for taking the time to go through the Q&A. I think Aaron did a good job hitting the key points. If there's anything else you have questions about, feel free to ask.

Having seen the PDF, I can tell you that Caliphate Nights is a great sourcebook and one that I'm very pleased to have as part of the True20 family. Aaron really makes the game system sing; it's clear that he gets it and then runs with it.
