Thrindar: Dwarf Cleric of Sarenrae

Before Ceremony:
Thrindar nods to Zantus. "I do not mean to keep you from your task. I would like to get with you later to discuss theology, faith and local history. While I am a cleric of Sarenrae, I also have an interest in all faiths."

Nuko
"Wizards? Well I don't associate with their sort much. Just a woodsman myself. Thought I might try to see if I could make connections with the Carpenter's Guild while I'm here to sell my wares. But I admit I like to do a little readin' from time to time, and I hear that librarian at The Way North knows an illusion or two. A gnomish fellow. Veznutt is what I calls him," George explains. (Knowledge: arcana and/or local)

Knowledge (local, arcana) = 19, 25

Nuko finds a part-Shoanti woman named Ren who takes a liking to his brawny figure, commenting on how she likes men with muscles, and makes his way to the Cathedral Square to meet up with his new friends for the Swallowtail Release.

Nuko flexes a little to show off for her.

"I like to think I have more brains than brawn though. I'm a wizard after all."

Ren laughs.

"Really. Here, listen to this." Nuko casts message and uses it to whisper in her ear at a distance, which she finds quite amusing.

---------------------------------

In the evening, when he hears the goblin song, Nuko is shocked. Oh no, not here!

Preparing for trouble, he casts mage armor on himself, and draws his axe. He then heads towards the sounds as quickly as he can.

Jamir Rolande

Before Kelvyn left for the Cathedral, Jamir replied about betting on Jubrayl, “Aye, told me you did. But sometimes it is better to have faith in friends. I did not lose much.”

With the release of the butterflies, the romantic mood was only heightened in the farm girl’s mind and she dragged Jamir off to a stable that was unoccupied so they could watch them flutter around as he obligingly gave her the business from behind. One good turn deserved another in the hay and the pair were busy for much of the rest of the afternoon until the stable’s owner came back. The couple ducked out the side and straightened out their clothes in the alley.

They returned to the festival and were near the others when things went of script. Jamir put behind him protectively and declared, “I know not what is going on, lass. But their poetry sucks, that's for damn sure. Stay back and I will keep you safe.”

The bard drew his shortbow in his left hand and javelin in his right. Goblins should beware!

Kelvyn gives Jamir a jaunty salute as the man hauls his prize off to the haystacks for a little fun. He meanders across the little town, making his way from group to group of people and generally in the direction of the ceremony and arriving just in time to catch the good Father's speech. The big man laughs like a child at the spectacle of the thousand swallowtails, plainly delighted at the sight. However, his expression sobers quickly as the sharp report rings across the town and the screams begin. The big man makes an aborted reach over his shoulder before realizing that he left both his great single edged blade and his maul in his room for the festival. Just have to make do, lad. You bought the damned things for just these occasions, where it would be uncouth to carry more.

He slips his short blade from its sheath at his waist and dips a hand down to pull a dagger for throwing from its place on his boot, and moves to the space the crowd has cleared so he can see. There he stands, looking for a target. Kelvyn's open features darken as the dog lets out its final yelp; the same childlike quality that had him laughing in delight at the butterflies brings out a surge of rage at the senseless death.

Before the Consecration
Zantus says to Thrindar, "That would be excellent. I will look forward to the opportunity. Tomorrow morning perhaps, say Ten Bells? Good, I shall see you then. I am afraid, I must excuse myself now though. I would so love to stay and talk further but it seems the acolytes require my attention for the Swallowtail Release preparations."

Nuko recalls that the Way North is a public library of mostly maps and sea charts. Veznutt's private collection makes up the lion's share of the content. These maps and sea charts are available for sale (prices range from 5 gp to 100 gp based on accuracy and quality) and public viewing, but not borrowing. Veznutt is a classically-trained gnome wizard (meaning a universalist) who uses his magic for practical things, such as adding detail to his maps. He is actually better known for his skill as a cartographer, scholar, and anthologist. He is a well-known friend and associate with Ilsoari of the Turandarok Academy (a school for the wealthy and middle-class in town) and sometimes teaches at the school.

OOC: Combat will be coming up tomorrow. I just wanted to give you guys a chance to wrap up non-combat interactions.

OOC: This is NOT a tactical battle map, nor will I use it as such during battle. It is a visual aid. Use it to help establish your initial view of the scene, and we will all imagine the action from there. I'll try to keep things moving quickly (although I realize we are close to the holidays, so I will try to keep the descriptive elements as detailed as possible so you don't feel like you have to read the entire combat sequence each time). If you feel tactical placement is absolutely necessary (say for placement of a spell, make a judgment call based upon the description given. Due to the narrative structure of the game, I will generally leave it to your judgment. On occasion, I may overrule you by having the villain(s) get a "second wind" or similar narrative event, but I intend for such a thing to be uncommon. Enjoy!

As discussed in the OOC, during the first round, your characters will have little to go on for actual stats of the enemies besides description, but information will trickle in each round based on the degree of success of your knowledge checks and combat interactions. When you encounter virtually identical monsters, known information will be automatically provided.

Side note: in the future please be sure to post your Initiative modifier, Perception modifier, and Sense Motive modifier with each post. I do not request an entire stat block or detailed mini stat block, just those three modifiers.

Goblins
Thrindar, Jamir, Kelvyn, Nuko (You need not act in any particular order. Combat will generally be run 1st edition style with monsters, then PCs, then monsters, then PCs, etc.)

To the northwest of Father Zantus' podium, you see a cadre of goblins have begun causing mayhem. (Knowledge: local) One holds a flask up high while the others carry crude weapons, spears and maces. They are protected with little armor, only boiled leather and small wooden shields, but most of the commoners have no weapons at all, and attempt to flee in various directions. One goblin leaps up onto a nearby cart and grabs a kabob, munching hungrily. Another goblin tosses his flask onto the ground nearby some commoners. It ignites in brilliant flame, and the goblin cackles with glee! (Craft: alchemy) Antonio's cloak catches fire as a gob of the flask's contents splatters onto him, and he struggles to put it out. A third goblins licks his dogslicer with the blood from the slain dog, seeming to savor the moment.

OOC: PC turns begin

[section]

The big Kel wastes no time leaping to the defense of the townsfolk! With a snarl of rage completely at odds with the good natured laughter he's become known for around Sandpoint, Kelvyn rushes across the grounds to attack the nasty goblin that slit the dogs throat. The short sword looks more like a dagger in his hand as he swings it in a glittering arc that ends badly . . . for the goblin.

Jamir looked at the party... er, festival crashers and tried to recall what he knew about goblins in the area. “I am not sure who would let these buggers attend the festivities, but they have certainly committed a grievous party foul! Stay back, my dear. The Spirit of Unity will make short work of these miscreants.”

Melanie looked aghast at the anti-social behavior of the creatures. "Oh, please do! Please do!"

Jamir thought the farm girl might faint and moved in closer to get within throwing range of the goblins. He charged the javelin in his hand with some arcane energy.

Kelvyn had at least injured one with his charge, and the bard threw his weapon at another. The cast was decent, but not quite accurate enough to skewer the bugger.
