Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Miniatures

How would you rate the quality and value of the Pathfinder Plastic Pre-painted Minis?

I think they're much better than the last couple DDM sets. I haul lots of mine around to use in Encounters every week and I don't find them fragile.

Heh. I sold off about a 1000 of my DDM 2 years ago. Prices on the ones I sold have been pretty stable since then (actually the ones I sold had been stable for about 2 years before that too). I still have 1000s of the things and am contemplating another sell off - I have a sewer drain to fix!

I had someone offer me $200 for my collection of minis. 1,000 might not sound like a lot to some people but it's 1,000 of carefully selected minis. I have enough of each monster to run an encounter with them so that's 1,000 well picked minis rather than just a random assortment.

$200. I nearly punched him in the face (he knew exactly how much they were worth as he was a collector as well). Then again, he was a major douche already and was the cause of multiple group splits and the only reason people kept playing with him was because his personal collection of DDM minis was about 6,000 (again, carefully picked). On top of that, all the ones I had were the ones he'd missed out on 'cause he started collecting late. Pfft. $200. The gall.

Out of vague curiosity what would you value those minis at?

I sell minis and I also collect them. I don't really haul any around since I DM at my house. I suppose I do move my 'for sale' bin around a lot when I'm pulling orders. But I've never had any PF minis break in my storage bins.

The minis look great. Some of the sculpts are kind of lame looking (mostly on the large minis). But I think they reflect the PF art more, which some of it is kind of cartoony. The paint job and detail is pretty good. Although the paint jobs could use more wash or some dry brushing.

The only complaint I had about the quality is the fact that I get quite a few out of the boxes that popped off the base or a piece popped off the joint and needs to be glued back on. They are not broken, it just seems like they were not glued on well or the glue is not strong enough. It is an easy fix though. I'd say for every 2000 minis, less than 10 minis popped off the base.

Other than the packaging being a big waste, and the price being more than DDM, the quality does seem better than DDM. Plus keep in mind that this was their first set. It's much better looking than Harbinger was. I'm kind of worried about the price on this next set though. But, I just hope we get what we pay for.

Please hit me up if you decide to sell. I always try to offer a fair deal on collections. I can even do trades or store credit. I could really use some to add to my inventory.

As I said, it's not a random collection, it's what I've pieced together specifically for DM'ing and not the skirmish game. So very few PC pieces, monsters grouped so that I have several different types and enough of each type to use on a mat for encounters. Some go for as little as $0.50, but most, if not all go for around $1-3 each. But I also collected a LOT of rares that I traded for during the height of the trading market boom. Some of those alone are worth $20-40 each.

If I sold all the minis individually, based on the prices I last saw (which admittedly was several years ago), I could net somewhere around $3,000. As a collection it'd probably be closer to around $2,000. Regardless, $200 was a slap in the face and he knew exactly what he was offering and why and was simply trying to rip me off because that's the type of person he is.

I think the sculpts and paint are well above average (hence the vote of great), but the price is also well above average. That'd be my one complaint and why I'll keep an eye on secondary markets.

There is very little in the first set that will really be of interest to you, Kzach: it's all meat and potatoes stuff, with a few dreadful sculpts (I really dislike the pose of the Ogre) and a few great ones (the Medusa) that you probably buy off the secondary market. I haven't had any of mine break so far (though a couple weren't attached properly to their bases), but I haven't used them that much.

I don't like how they feel, though they look good in general.

The second set (Rise of the Runelords) looks good, but quite expensive.

It should also be noted that the first set had an extremely flat rarity system. Goblins were more common than anything else, but I have more of some rares than I do of commons. That is, there are commons I only have 1 of, and I bought a case. This actually isn't how I like the rarity system to work.

If those 1000 were from the early sets it almost doesn't matter what minis they were - the first 4 sets have commons going for $5-6 and try and find that Harbinger "uncommon" Orc Archer for less than $10. $200? I would have punched him. Your restraint is incredible :D

It will likely take me a couple of weeks to piece the offer together but sure - I'll shoot it your way.
