Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Physical Copy

Nearly all the sadness of Dungeon & Dragon magazines going digital and not having a monthly goodie to curl up with just vaporized yesterday afternoon, when I got home.

Open the mailbox, had a nice, shiny Pathfinder 1 in there, grabbed a tall glass of lemonaide and headed for the hammock.

My hat is off to you, Paizo, this is a great book! Looking forward to the rest in the series!

I have just one gripe... the font is small and a bit light, making it hard to read on a moving commuter van. Other than that, yeah, it's really super nice and I am glad to have the PDF copy for actual gameplay.

I got my PDFs last week, but there's still no sign of my print product, which shipped August 20, 2007. That is kind of frustrating, but I'm still waiting.

Looking forward to it,
Flynn

I'm a subscriber and haven't seen mine yet. I just checked Paizo.com and it says it shipped on the 21st, which is eight days ago. Eek.

Got mine today, and my cursory examination says "Looks awesome!" I particularly like the monsters. I would prefer slightly less toony interior art, but that's a fairly minor quibble. As for the adventure content and world stuff, that will require a more detailed read.

I'm totally yoinking the Sandpoint Devil for S&S Saga, tho!

Thanks for the kind words, everyone! It's a real buzz to actually see Pathfinder for real for me, at least, and as cool as Pathfinder 1, is, I think I can say that the ones to follow will be even better! For one... Pathfiner 1 was really rushed, and there's a few warts on it here and there. Nothing huge, but doing it and finishing Dungeon and prepping for Gen Con all at the same time was pretty crazy: I'm kind of flabbergasted we got it out in time for Gen Con at all!

Anyway... I'm pretty confident that we'll have much fewer typos/editing errors in the future, if only because we'll be back to working only one full-time job rather than two. Trust me... it's pretty crazy what the old human eye can miss when you're doing 70 hour weeks three months running! :)

The font, I'm afraid, we're stuck with through this adventure path, but come the next one (Curse of the Crimson Throne) we'll very likely be switching up to a different font that's not quite so tiny looking.

ANYway... keep the comments coming! I'll be here lurking and taking notes to make sure that Pathfinder only gets better wtih each month!
Thank you for the feedback, James. It's really nice to see the staff participating in comment threads. I hope your business continues to grow and that you're able to swell the ranks of paizo as time passes. I don't know who to credit this to, but IMO the best art within the pages of Burnt Offerings falls on pp 28, 39, 57, 64, 72, and 81. I'd like to see more of that style in future issues. That said, I do also like the NPC portraits for Aldern Foxglove, Tsuto Kaijitsu, Orik Vancaskerkin, and Nualia. Are you at liberty to say who did those portraits?

The font used to demarcate room numbers on the maps is hard to read in places. That it appears to be italicized and of a cursive style adds to my difficulty making out which room is which.

I really enjoyed reading the background on Thassilon, thank you for including those pages within the module. I also very much enjoyed reading the sidebars sprinkled throughout Burnt Offerings, which were at times funny but were always pertinent and useful.

...so pardon my ignorance, but I'll ask again - will it be availble in stores (in Australia), or by subscription only?

I can confirm that Australian distributors have ordered Pathfinder #1. They should be available in stores sometime in the next couple of weeks in Australia. Ask your local store for details.

I just flipped through the print version this morning and I have a few comments.

First, I want to say that Pathfinder, its world and the first issue, Burnt Offerings, simply ooozes coolness. I am stoked about DMing this campaign and I may migrate my new group (1 session into Age of Worms) to this adventure.

The only changes I would make are cosmetic:

  1. The font is a point or two too small.
  2. The yellow sidebars obscure the olive colored font that is layered over the top (ex. pgs 17, 37, 43, 57, etc).
  3. As stated before, the numeric markers on the maps are tough to read. Use a less curly font.

I can blow up and reuse the maps from the PDF, if necessary, so the maps aren't as critical.

Now... it's time to start negotiating with my players. :)

They are "locked into" the font for the first six issues, but for the second run they will change the font to something a little bigger.
