Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder's Goblins

As long as we're talking our favorite goblins, I always liked Blix from Legend. He had lots of little gobliny couplets:

Higher, higher, burning fire
Making music like a choir.

Mortal world turned to ice,
Here by goblin paradise.

And my favorite, when asked by the Lord of Darkness how black was his heart:

Black as night, black as pitch,
Blacker than the foulest witch.

You know, imdb mentioned that the make-up design for Blix was based-- at the suggestion of the actress playing Blix-- on Keith Richards. Interesting. Blix and Cap'n Jack, seperated at birth?

When I first saw the art I thought they were green skinned like Warhammer or OotS goblins as opposed to the orange/yellow skinned ones from D&D. With the bigger picture they appear grey skinned with green highlights.

I like the picture and the goblin details. Some will work well with my Wildwood campaign where there was a war between the local goblins and a tribe of Dover (dog men from Bastion Press' Complete Minions).

You mean the seven Virtues? I'm not big on religion, but I think those were already there. It's just that the sins get more publicity.

On a side note, these new goblins have inspired me to do some more homebrew stuff. Namely a new discipline for the ToB classes. It's based on savage attacks, bloody criticals and such, so I think it'll fit the little nasties pretty well. I'm looking for a little help, if anybody's interested.

Savage Maw Discipline
In the DC Comics' series "52" issue 16, Captain Marvel calls down the Seven Virtues of Man to bless the union of Black Adam and Mighty Isis. There they're listed as: Courage, Kindness, Hope, Faith, Humility, Patience and Love.

In the Psychomachia pem written in the 5th century, the Seven Virtues (and they're opposites) are: Chastity (Lust), Abstinence (Gluttony), Liberality (Greed), Diligence (Sloth), Patience (Wrath), Kindness (Envy) and Humility (Pride).

In the Roman Catholic Tradition, the Seven Virtues (and their opposites), in ascending order, are: Chastity (Lust), Temperance (Gluttony), Charity (Greed), Diligence (Sloth), Forgiveness (Wrath), Kindness (Envy) and Humility (Pride).

Love the WAR art.

However, you can't show a picture like that to players and then not follow up with natural bite attacks.

And then I know I'll have players who will be inspired by these creatures and want to play one at some point.

So if I just add a bite attack to a goblin do you think this should change its level adjustment?

One shouldnt buy RPG products just because of the cover art. But the first Pathfinder will be mine, no matter what. Just because of those loveable, cute, totally sweet little tooseywoosies.

Honestly, looking at them made me remember all those totally crappy, but still cool, 90s B-movie "horror" flicks. Critters, Chucky, Tales from the Crypt, et al. And the flavor text is just a masterpiece. It fits the picture just perfect. Kudos to Paizo, WAR et al for doing that stunt :D

Actually this is incorrect. This comes from Dante's Divine Comedy. The actual virtues as held by the Roman Catholic Church are: prudence (wisdom), justice, fortitude, temperance, faith, hope, and charity (love). See here for more info: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt3sect1chpt1art7.htm

But back to the goblins, I like the "new" take. I'm happy to go back to their fairy table/fable story roots. I've always liked the monsters that we feared as children to be similarly represented when we're adults. Despite loving goblins, I avoided D&D goblins because I couldn't stand how they were portrayed and the orange skin just didn't seem right.

If you are all jiggy with the goblin song, here is another, posted by Balabar on the Paizo boards.

"Goblins sneak and goblins hide,
Goblins hunt when it’s dark outside,
Out of the forest, through the trees,
Goblins quiet in the leaves.

Goblins sneak and goblins harm,
Goblins find a lonely farm,
Badger stink and poison bone,
Kill the dog away from home.

Goblins sneak and goblins hide,
Goblins know how to get inside,
Down the chimney, up the loo,
Goblins know just what to do.

Goblins sneak and goblins spy,
Goblins listen for baby’s cry,
Find the crib and climb beneath,
Draw the blade and lick your teeth.

Goblins sneak and goblins hide
Goblins climb up inside,
Must be quick with shiny knife,
Never wake-up farmer’s wife.

Goblins sneak and goblins see
Goblins know when to flee,
Stuff the baby into sack,
Run from room, don’t look back.

Goblins sneak and goblins hide,
Goblins hunt when it’s dark outside,
Deep in the forest, out of sight,
Goblins eat tasty baby tonight."
