D&D 5E (2024) PAX WotC Dungeons and Dragons speculation thread.

I bought one of the 3rd basic sets partly because it had a soft cover PHB in it.

I think that was the Player's Option Box Set, sometimes it was wrapped up with the second 3.5 Basic set as a combo.

With that combo I think you also got a free box of miniatures as well.

I got a copy of the Paperback PHB and I think I may have also gotten a rare DMG version as well???

It's been a hot minute. I don't think the DMG one was widely available if at all...if I am remembering right.

I'd have loved to have a MM to match it all, but alas, that never even got into a prototype I don't think.

I'd totally rather have shift covers, bit I get others disagree. I feel like WotC has given up marketing at this point. Like, I couldn't be less excited for them right now.

For example, the D&D Beyond Instagram last posted October 29th. The D&D WoTC account has been posting, but not much about the supplements coming out. It's weird, I wonder what's happening at the WoTC marketing department. Hasn't been the same since they dumped Todd, I feel.

They laid a ton of folks on that team off. They may not have more than a handful of people doing it, and even modest marketing campaigns are more work than people think.
Based on what my wife -- an art director for a large reinsurer -- has seen, marketing is one of the first departments to fall to AI replacements. The remaining humans are overworked and over their heads.
