most of the time my FLGS runs 3-5 'game day' events... infact since we play normal on saterday night we always are the 3rd group through...this week we were the only ones through. And just so you know there was no charge...

What utter hooey. The FLGS I played at today(twice) sure as heck didn't do it. It's not even my FLGS, I went to Yottaquest in Cincinnati, Ohio(Awesome place) and I live in California(Out here visiting my mom).

(And yeah I think they did well enough on my $45 or so I spent while I was there. They even got the 'honor' of selling me the set of dice that contained my 1,000th die. ;p )

Well, for whatever reason, NO ONE showed up for game day today at my LGS, except me and my son. Drove an hour for nothing. Curious since we usually have 30+ people show up in the past, and the store had been advertising it for about 2 months.

I put low attendance down to much the same reason why I didn't want to go to my local for this, which is to say that it's missing the entire point of living games. Most people I've encountered playing or being involved in living games go because it's quick, easy, relatively painless gaming (at least for the players) that can be finished in one session.

The game day event required you to put in effort to build an adventure. I'm betting that was a big turn off for most regulars and any potential newbies.

I only considered going for free swag and maybe to say hello to friends or the staff. When I checked Endgames calander online, it didn't mention the event (I didn't go to WotC to see if they had a list of participating stores). I saw that Black Diamond Games had it on their calander, but all it said was, 'more info to come' and obviously more info didn't.

So I decided that since I wasn't going to purchase anything and not play, there was no reason to waste my gas (though I ended up going to Trader Joe's anyway, but that's another story).

That seems to be wholly against Wizards intent with the event, which is to advertise and draw in new players.

I agree that the store needs to be exposed, and Wizards told.

I'm feeling under the weather, and so didn't make it to this yesterday, but even over here in Scotland (and so requiring international shipping of the materials) our local game-store wasn't charging anything for this.

Yes, all this events are supposed to be free. None of the Game Days here in Italy required a fee from the players.

Thanks for all the replies. Yeah, looks like my players were taken. Here is the store in question:

Dr. No's
3428 Canton Road
Marietta, GA 30066
(770) 422-4642

The owner is Buck, though Jared (an assistant manager or manager, I believe) is the one that told us about the new policy. I would like to pass this along to WotC; who exactly should I contact, and how?
