how would you be brought back? ressurrection? raise dead? In Australia we only had a few books. So my group tended to ad lip a lot. So would this cost you more to over come. Is it even possible? We have played that raise dead will severe the negative plane connection then you could ressurrect...but you would need to cast both. How do you play this?

I'm assuming your comment about Australia is just that you never bought many books, because you can get anything in Australia if you look :)

Apart from that ... there is nothing in the rules themselves that forbids a killed undead creature being resurrected. In fact the Resurrection spell specifically states (emphasis mine) ...

You can resurrect someone killed by a death effect or someone who has been turned into an undead creature and then destroyed. You cannot resurrect someone who has died of old age. Constructs, elementals, outsiders, and undead creatures can’t be resurrected.

Ressurection and True Ressurection can bring someone back to life if they were previously an undead but were destroyed, though Ressurection requires you to have some piece of the body. Raise Dead requires the corpse to be mostly whole, and doesn't restore any severed/destroyed parts of it, but the exact wording of Raise Dead, compared to the wording of Ressurection, leads me to believe that Raise Dead cannot ever return life to someone who is or was previously an undead creature. However, the wording of Raise Dead does not specifically state such, it's just that the wording doesn't mention the same bit as Ressurection does, so it's possible Raise Dead could return someone who was once an undead. Now, Reincarnate may be able to return the character to life even while their corpse is an undead creature, since Reincarnate doesn't require any of the original body nor does it mention any caveats against reincarnating the undead. Of course, if the character is an intelligent undead (i.e. they were animated as a wight, vampire, ghoul, or the like) they will likely be unwilling to return to life, and Reincarnate only works if the soul is willing.

Raise dead won't work, it has to be resurrect or better

Raise dead and reincarnate use the same text. Neither will work on a creature that has (ever) been turned into an undead creature. Also reincarnate does require part of the body since its target is "Dead creature touched", hence the text that specifies "the portion receiving the spell must have been part of the creature's body at the time of death".

Raise dead has no effect on an undead creature one way or the other, since the undead does not fit the "dead" condition and therefore is not a valid target for the spell. Resurrection will work once the undead has been struck down, as others have mentioned.

No, in Australia you had very few books. Other people in Oz have lots of books (looks over at impressive bookcase). From the posts I've read about the groups you've played in, the problems haven't been caused because you lacked books, it just sounds like nobody in your group reads them. BTW, I'm enjoying reading your posts.... ;)

And, FYI/FWIW, you mean ad lib with a b not a p.

Yeah, well down here in ‘Oosutoraria’, the problem is rarely finding the books; it’s always been ‘affording’ the books… Thank god for Amazon, Overstock, SciFiGenre, etc…

Or Aces Comics in Brisbane where Lost Empires of Faerun and Races of the Wild were AUD34.95, Sharn; City opf Towers was AUD39.95 etc... which is much cheaper than Amazon!
