[PC Games] Recommendations?

It's nearing my bday time so i can usually weasel a joint-purchase PC game for myself out of my family. :)

Having said that, I am so out of the loop on games these days but have had a hankering to play one.

Any recommended PC games out there lately (or from earlier this year). $50 (US) is about the most I would feel comfortable asking for... so that's my max on price.

For reference, I enjoyed titles like Baulder's Gate, NWN, Might and Magic (something it was 7 or 8 or so), Krondor's Betrayl. I don't really play PC games that often though.

(for further reference, video games i really liked were shining force I and II, Final Fantasy III (or was it IV?)... I don't like the more recent final fantasy games simply because of those wierd chobocu games and other "arcade like" interludes that infuriate me 'cause I lack enough coordination to ever pass that part of the game... ;-)

Ease of play (controls) is a big factor for me. Fantasy genre preferrably.. Magic and such helps with the idea of variablility in choices as opposed to just hitting a sword every single round ...

multiplayer capability is nice, but not abolsutly required since it is rare for me to get to netowrk up for others (and am otherwise on a slow connection).

anyway, even if nothing else, anyone have some titles/games that I might want to look into ?

Thanks.

If you like real-time strategy at all (Warcraft, Command and Conquer, etc.) Age of Mythology is spectacular. You can pick up that and its expansion pack for $50. No expansion for $30.

Morrowind

Arcanis (?SP?) (of Steamworks and magic obscura)(bad graphics now, but a good game)

Fallout 2

These are all fun good games, with Morrowind being the Most modifiable and Fallout the most fun.

If you haven't played Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, get it. It's fantastic. I'm a cynical person, and a lot of times when something is really hyped, I avoid it, figuring it can't be that good. SW:KotoR is that good.

As a side benefit, it uses the d20 rules, so you'll feel right at home.

The full title is Arcanum: Of Steamwork & Magicka Obscura.

Here's hoping they do a version 2 of this game.
Aye. Especially as I've developed quite a hankering for all sorts of steampunk goodness. In fact, Arcanum started me off on that path.

So after posting this last night, I started playing the game. Three hours later I dropped from exhaustion and had to go to sleep.... :D It's fun, but addictive. You have been warned!
