PC sex relative to player sex

What percentage of the PCs you create share your same sex/gender?

  • All of my them.

    Votes: 91 31.4%
  • Most (more than half) of them.

    Votes: 143 49.3%
  • About half of them.

    Votes: 45 15.5%
  • Few (less than half) to none of them.

    Votes: 10 3.4%
  • None of them.

    Votes: 1 0.3%

I voted 50/50 because at this point I don't count anything before 3rd. In previous editions it was all male. Now since FR is fairly neutral with respect to gender (at least it is now, but that is another thread with flame resistance 30) I play whatever my twisted mind can imagine.

Like another poster, I tend to play characters I'd like to be in a fantasy world; therefore my characters have thus far all been men (& also major flirts when we encounter hunky guards, but that's another thread). I do, however, enjoy challenging my RP abilities in fun ways (like my recently deceased 'humanoid' racial zealot who was slated to flirt with insanity when he learned he was possibly half-aberration). For that reason, I'm very strongly considering playing a changeling in an upcoming Eberron campaign & following the 'Becomer' path, so that s/he would have a myriad of personas & relationships to play.

I try to keep to about 50/50. My last four pcs have been:

Neverbeard (m)
Yolanda (f)
Sarcastro (m)
Er, can't remember her name, it was only for about one hour (f)

Yes, by a ratio of about 4:1.

edit --- except when I'm DMing.

duh, double edit? Um, I read it as *characters*, not *PCs*, so yeh. Ignore the DMing edit.

I voted in the half and half category, but that's not entirely accurate. The most accurate answer for me would be, it varies. When I first began playing all character genders matched my own. Currently most of them are the opposite gender, for no other reason than the characters called to me to explore them. Them same thing happens to me when I write a story or play, I often find I do not so much write something as I read what the characters use my hand to write. In the future I'd like to have a campaign with mature players where I explore gender roles and identity more, something inspired by one of my college courses a few years ago that was absolutely fascinating. Basically, when I play a character I play whatever gender the character wants to be, I rarely think about my own gender in the process until the character is done and I decide whether this character will live in the current campaign or a future one, which often depends largely on who I'm gaming with. Always know your audience.

I have occasionally played a cross-gender character when I had a strong concept. I have also seen the guy-who-plays-HAWT-chainmail-bikini-babes thing that gets so many people irritated, and I sympathise.

I'm in a pretty non-hormonal group, tho, so for us it generally isn't a problem.

Probably 75-80% male PCs (same gender) and usually find a similar ratio among the other gamers in my groups of 80% of PCs being same gender as their players.

In my campaign, which is classic Sword & Sorcery society is sexist and female warriors and adventurers are a minority (except of course for the Amazons), but I don't put any penalties on female characters or NPC.

I tend to play male PCs, but I have no problems role-playing women. My players (male and female) tell me I play convincing female NPCs when I DM. The important thing to remember about role-playing female characters is not to get embarassed or self-conscious when acting feminine. I really get into character when I play NPCs, so this isn't a problem for me.
