PC's Name is Funny/Disparaging Slang

If you're using urban dictionary as a reference for anything, then that's where you've gone wrong.

Actually, remove "as a reference for anything" from that sentence.

I think you would be hard pressed to find a sequence of pronounceable syllables that doesn't have a negative connotation attached to it there. If you do find one, feel free to attach a negative connotation to it.

After reading this thread, I even more afraid to ever use a what-i-believe-to-be-made-up-name because it will, apparently, have an existing denotation/connotation I am not aware of but at least one of my depraved motley crew of fellow gamers probably know...

xerix and merkin indeed....

I hate to tell you what "fba827" means in Yiddish! :erm:

I had a DM once who named one of his BBEGs Xerix. He was supposed to be the epitome of evil. Not after I found this:

Urban Dictionary: xerix
Ok, that's it. I give up on fantasy names. There are clearly people on this earth who are trying to give everything a sexual connotation. From now on I'm naming all my PCs everyday day names like Bob, Carl, or Mike. If people don't like it, complaining about it braking their willing suspension of disbelief, I'm going to point them to this thread.

I think you've just discovered rules 36 and 37 of the internet.

I saw someone's wiki on "Obsidian Portal" they had a campaign called "Exploring Onara"... This cracked me up because in Japanese, "onara" means, uh... passing gas. Which is not something I'm eager to "explore". Or at least, not have a whole campaign devoted to exploring.

(Turns out there is a fantasy setting/world named "Onara" - published, I think? Here's a website I just found: Onara Online )

Well, just a word of advice- you might not want to ever refer to any "Carl" PC as "Hot" in any way...and "Bob" and "Mike" can be found in the Urban Dictionary as well.
