IMC, this little WalMart would be shut down hard by the Jeweler & Gemcutters Guild. And yes, they are closely aligned with the Greyhawk Thieves' Guild, who run the biggest and richest city on the planet, in conjunction with the Assassin's Guild.

DM's should never let an opportunity for adventure pass!

Which is sort of what happened. So we spread the word amongst all the "adventurers" of the area who supported us and started our own guild. After several months of warfare (and mind you the average member of the adventurers guild holds his own in strongarming a lot better than the average member the shopkeepers guilds) we were bought out. The amount of money they lost on the battle started to be more than they saved by us being out of business.

You are right, however, that this is the stuff of a GOOD game. I wish my crew now was pro-active enough to write our own stories as players like this. Its a HECK of a lot more fun forging your own destiny than having to save the world again and/or battle some evil baddie.
