Pearl of Power -- use activated?

I've been in several non-combat situations when my initial attempt to dispel a high-level magical effect has failed. Several times my 3rd level pearl has allowed the party to progress by giving me a second chance. Other than that, having a second Slow or Blink spell is always handy.

My 5th level pearl is generally used for an extra Teleport. Cone of Cold or Wall of Force sometimes get the nod instead.

All in all, they're among the best items available if you're a wizard, command word or not.

Always nice to have an extra Teleport handy, for those times when you end up in a place you have never seen before... :p

Some unlucky teleport attempts, my PCs seem to ALWAYS make their teleport checks *shrug*.

Then again, it's getting more used every session, so one of these days, they'll have to role the wrong % :uhoh: :]

I've found the Pearl of Power quite useful by recalling protective spells with large durations, such as Mage Armor, and Stoneskin. In fact, in the case of Mage Armor, for a 12th level caster, the effect would be similar to a Permanency.

Me too. I've also found it useful for casting long-term buff spells that you always have prepared for yourself, on another party member. If the cleric plans on casting Magic Vestments every day for himself, a pearl can hook up the fighter. If the wizard is always going to want Mage Armor, a pearl can hook up the druid's animal companion. etc. etc.

My Druid in Living Greyhawk uses it to keep his club permanently Spiked. Cast it in the morning, recall it and recast it in the evening. That's if it hasn't been used to regain a Mass Lesser Vigour, or a Spike Growth...
