I love the ED step system. The best, however, is step 14. D20 + d4.
The d20 lets you get many target numbers, and the d4 gives you a 1 in 4 chance of rolling a 4. For those that don't know the system, if you roll the highest number on a die (on any of the dice), you get to re-roll the die and add that to the total. And if you roll the highest number on THAT re-roll, you roll again.
So, you could keep rolling over and over, as long as you kept getting a 4 on the d4. you kept adding to the total. Pretty amazing damage rolls there. And, considering that the d4 doesn't really "roll", skilled dicers know how to "drop" the d4 without looking like it's being "dropped".
