Pennywise, IT, Haunted Carnivals, New Campaign. Help?

Hmmm. If you're going to fight through the book discussion and try to create the beastie, I'll shift it back for now. Sorry for the confusion!

So does anyone have suggestions as to what the creature would be? Stats, feats, Skills, etc?

Hmm- you are aiming for 5th lvl right?

I would go with an outsider as a creature type.

I like the Phantasmal Killer suggestion, but I would also give IT the polymorph-self at will ability. So, its physical stats would change by its current form.

IT has been around for a very long time, so the INT and WIS would be high. I would gamble the CHA would be high to bluff/intimidate people.

Hmm- perhaps make IT a psion telepath?

Feats: I am at a bit of a loss at the moment.
Skills: A lot of Bluff, Intimidate, Disguise, Knowledge (Nature), and Knowledge (Local History)

P Kitty: Thanks for Shifting. As with all "i wanna create a monster like this' everyone is going to say "well according to the book ... " and with Stepehen King things, its always the book and not the movie =)

Back to my point ...


No ... the campaign is like this ...

the PCs are starting out as 1st level commoners. They are sneaky, bully, knowledgeable, earthy, etc. to reflect what they will become.

I want to use a haunted carnival. I mean, what kid DOESN'T like carnivals? I want it to be scary to them and very disturbing (Ideas? Suggestions?).

They will destroy the great evil and the carnival will resume and go out of their town. Next session ... 13 years have passed and one of them has stayed behind in the old town while the rest have gone off (insert level 2 adventuring classes). They get a message from this person that the carnival is back in town and the kids are dissappearing again.

See? kind of like the plot to IT. My game starts Saturday the 28th and was needing help before then. ideas, suggestions .. help?

Go watch Something Wicked This Way Comes starring Jason Robards and Jonathan Pryce. It's about an evil carnival that comes to town.

You can then go read the original short story by Ray Bradbury. I haven't read the short story so I don't know how it compares to the movie.

Isn't the non D20 Game Little Fears specifically designed to deal with creatures like Pennywise and how to defeat them?

I agree about the underage sex though, that was a very strange and disturbing episode in a very good book!

I was never fond of the movie, but it may give you some good ideas.

Another book to lift "evil carnival" ideas from is The Funhouse by Koontz.

It's actually a book, not a short story.

I'd say the book is where it's at — the movie's fine, but the book is just great. However, you have to enjoy Ray Bradbury's writing style. It's not precisely conversational or perfunctory; Bradbury's style is more ornate, and tends to march to its own beat. His style might not be your particular cup of tea, but this really is the definitive "evil carnival" story.

The basic premise of funhouse: A carnie couple has a disfigured kid who the father raises in the funhouse. As it gets older- it begins to kidnap/kill people it catchs alone in there.

That is the short of it.

You could have the IT the 1st lvl people face be IT as a youngin- the one they face later on has grown up and realized its potential.. just like the pc's did.
