People do stupid things

I was DMing this one.

Two thieves were trying to break into a wizard's tower. They foolishly trigger some traps, including a large golem. They sensibly state "Oh, CRAP!" and dash for the rope they had climbed in on.

The first thief sensibly starts climbing down, very fast.

The second thief gets on the rope, then looks at the golem, sees the huge red gem in its forehead (like the 1E book). He realizes that that's probably its vulnerable spot*.

Thief: "OK, I'm on the rope, right?"
DM: "Yeah. The golem starts walking over to the window."
Thief: "Oh crap...I take out my heavy crossbow and shoot it!"

He fell the entire five stories, INTO the sewer grate, and ended up in the sewers with something like 1 hp left, and a lot of broken bones.

Then they heard the Watch arriving...

*God only knows WHY the vulnerable spot would be so stupidly placed. I was being nice.

In an 2e game i was once playing my group wandered into a room empty except for a burning furnace, well with nothing else to do and while the rest of group argued over what to do and where to go since we were completely lost at the time, I slid the DM a Note, written on the note was, "I kick open the furnace door, and stand aside" Well the DM began to laugh and I rolled a DC check and succeeded in ot only kicking hte door open but off, and the flaes shot right by me and engulfed my entire party. 2 minutes later the DM started handing out new Character sheets, what can I say the group got on me dwarven nerves.
