Percentage Dice

In recent years, the old percentage dice haven't had much use. I think they deserve a return, whether it be a fluff chart or something rules-related. What comes to mind right off is the old Good Hits and Bad Misses chart.

I hope we see them again.

Rod of Wonder, random magic effects tables. That's really about as far as I'd like to see them go.

I like percentile. d20 divides nicely into these rolls. (I've even been thinking about making the core rolls d8 instead of d6 because of this)

Besides, what else am I going to do with those twice numbered d20s?

The D100 saw heavy use prior to 3e but I'm happy that the d20 mechanic has largely made them redundant. Like previous posters, I believe it is pretty much relegated to a DM's tool for random tables.

The d100 is the roll that showcases the awesome power of the Dungeon Master. Really, it is five times more powerful than the d20! If you let players get their grubby hands on it, the Dungeon Masters would be forced to retaliate by arming with a d1000.

Percentiles are a part of all RPGs I run, including DnD 3e.

Basically, anyone that logs a considerable of time DMing has to do what is scientifically called Ballpark Guesstimates, aka Pulling Stuff Out of Your Rear End.

Basically, it is unavoidable that there will come times where your PC ask you stuff. And no matter how prepared you are, you won't know the answer.

So whenever that happens, just pull a number off you-know-where and roll those % dice!

It's as invaluable as Rule Zero and I'd put it in the book, seriously.

System shock survival. Resurrection survival.

Both should be % as d20 is in this case not granular enough. (oh, and both should be in the game)

d% can also be used for various skill checks where the skill does not necessarily advance 5% per level; again, because it is more granular. (e.g. Thief skills table from 1e)

Also, d% can be used for any random roll-up charts for those who want such. Can't decide on a race? Roll %. Need a past profession? Roll % (though this one would better be served by a d1000). And so on.
