PHB Heroes - Its official?

LOL:D

Thanks for all the answers, so seems that my fighter is dropping Brash Strike for Knockdown Assault.

Cheers!
You'd be better served by keeping Brash Strike (specially with the Style feats I told you about) and get Pinning Smask (Hit: damage, and target is immobilized until you are no longer adjacent to it... note the lack of "save ends").

The power does not do any [W] damage so how could you add an extra 1[w] damage to something that does not do [w] damage?
The same way you can add 1d6 radiant damage to something that doesn't already deal 1d6 radiant damage. Plus, Knockdown Assault has the Weapon keyword.

Grasping Tide is probably the real winner in the series. The rest I have seen are either obsoleted by a _____ Power book, or are highly situational and for Humans as a third at-will, but not as a first or second, or it's a warlock at-will and -only- Humans can take it, even tho the melee warlock isn't a human build.

Yeah... it's interesting because it seems like if you use a horned helm or crit on a static damage power, suddenly you might get to add focus and feat and such bonuses to damage, since it's now a damage roll.

You can take it on Hybrid builds, giving some interesting options to warlocks that hybrid with melee classes. Likewise, half elves in melee classes can pick up an interesting basic attack.

Is there any information somewhere on which powers appear in which packs (for those without DDI - I know, I'm a fool)? Not full details, of course, but just general descriptions?

Dear friend, I respectfully disagree.

In the Brash Strike case, granted, its a great at-will power and you know I am frequently swarmed, sorrouned, flanked, ganked (you get the picture), so I am frequently giving CA already. So I would be fool not to use Brash Strike? Wrong.:p I know myself Claudio. I usually play safe. I feel responsable for everyone's well being, so I tend to favor Crushing Surge.

I enjoy my Temporary HP, and quite frankly you know I need them. I like the theme of Brash Strike, remmembering a super power attack, but I also miss my Shield Bash.

So for flavor I intent to get Knockdown Assaut and call it "Neo-Shield Bash" for flavor. If you are worried about my effectiveness just remmember that damm Harpy. Jeez, if we havent droped her from the sky we would ended all dead, blinded and toasted.

So I am following someone's advice (cant remmember who), and I will not require 2 equally usefull at-wills. Crushing Surge as my main attack, having Knockdown Assault ready when needed (specially when the rogue does not get flanking position...).

Regarding the Pinning Smash: its great! I fully agree, but I can already sense the table discussions comming. If it were a magical effect - ok, people tend to agree with anything that is magical, becuse its magic. But its not, and I dont want to cause any trouble there. If I pin down some major badass boss we will probably have a headache. Rain of Steel keeps the character's flavor and allows me to kick some serious minion butt.

Use the DDI Compendium - you don't need a subscription to do queries. Click on Powers, then under Source scroll to the bottom and select PHB Heroes 1 or 2.

And you know, I'm quite fed up with the table arguments...
