I am a long-term Gnome hater. Many of my characters have been irrationally racist towards gnomes. I consider the whisper gnome "the only gnome I can play without killing myself". When 4E announced that gnomes were moving to the monster-manual, I rejoiced and started planning out new character concepts - "store the gnome ears on a belt or a necklace?" Etc etc.

All that being said, 4E gnome looks pretty cool. I hate to say it, but I . . . kind of . . . want to play a gnome now. *hangs head in shame, hides in corner*

Depending on their mechanics, I might consider it now, as well.
You are not alone. I was mildy gnomophobic too.

Now they have a sort of chick coolness that says "You know you want to play me. I am a monster. Wraaarrr!"

Ditto. With the exception that gnomes are better than halflings.
