Piercing Strike question

Hey guys, I am starting KotS tonight and I am, sitting here with a friend who will play a Paladin, and he has a question.

The first level ability Piercing Strike states, "The target and a number of enemies are marked" does this mean Divine challenged?

My friend read how a Fighter marks creatures and pointed it out to me, I think Divine Challenge suits more.

No.

It means Marked.

Marking is a seperate category of effect, which results in the -2 to hit against anything that is not the markee.. in this case, the paladin.

Divine Challange is a seperate class feature that applies the Marked effect in addition to its other effects.
