D&D 3E/3.5 Pinching from 4E for 3E

I like what I see of 4E and was wondering how much I could pinch for 3E and what the effect would be.

BAB and saves seem immediately stealable. It seems to me that for this to work, we need to introduce the concept of the current class, the class in which you are currently taking a level.

We start with BAB=Level / 2 rounded down and Saves = Level / 2 rounded up.

A character whose current class has full BAB progression adds a current class bonus of +4 to his BAB, medium +2, and poor +0.

A character whose current class has a Good save adds a current class bonus of +2 to that save.

So, Fred the Fighter is 4th level and has a AB of +6 and saves of +4/+2/+2. He then takes a level of Monk so his AB drops to +4 but his saves rise to +5/+5/+5. Fred takes another level of Monk so his AB improves to +5 and his saves stay at +5/+5/+5. Fred then takes 4 more levels of Fighter and now has a AB of +9 and saves of +7/+5/+5. 10 levels of Monk later, Fred has a AB of +12 and saves of +12/+12/+12. Had he remained a fighter, he'd have an AB of +14 and saves of +12/+10/+10.

What do you think? It tones down the attacks and bumps the saves.

So if you multiclass from fighter to sorcerer, you loose 4 points of BAB? But someone going from sorcerer to fighter gains +4? Even though they may both have the same number of levels in the same classes?

IMO, not a good idea.

Yes, because for that level you get the bonuses for your current class level. Dont forget that a character with 10 levels in Fighter will have all the bonus feats that the Sorceror does not, which will make a big difference.

Actually it won't a fighter 1/sorcerer 1 can and should likely have the same feats as a sorcerer 1/fighter 1/

my thought would be make your bab be an average. I've seen people take a level in another class to avoid a level in the class theyre in where it doesnt go up one. so maybe some sort of averaging could fix things. The current class idea is nifty, but there are two many issues with it. I shouldnt be able to go wizard 8 fighter 1 for a big bonus on bab.

I'm not sure how you want to rework it, but I wouldnt work it like that.

Maybe a percentage rule.

like
classes give a 50% level bonus to other classes abilities. So a sorcerer 10 fighter 10 casts as a sorcerer 15. a sorcerer 10 and wizard 10 casts from both spell lists as a 15's level caster. A sorcerer 10 fighter 10 either has the BAB of a sorcerer 15, or fighter 15, whichever is better.saves would work the same.

would this make your idea more plausible? maybe with tweaking?

Unearthed Arcana. Fractional Base Atack bonus and Fractional Saves. Do the same thing more elegantly and functionaly. Also, you might want to look at all classes advance spellcasting.

I don't like the temporary bonus either. A fixed bonus (+1 at every odd level for classes with a good BAB; +1 at every 3rd level for classes with an average BAB) makes more sense. Or, you could grant bonus feats like Weapon Focus, and allow them to stack.
