Pink Floyd Reunion

Well most of the songs they were playing were written by Roger. If anyone had a right to use the name Pink Floyd after they broke up, it was him.

Actually, that's not true. The whole band wrote most of everything together up to Animals and The Wall, and they only did one song off Animals (can't remember which) and one, You Better Run, off The Wall, which is the one Gilmour wrote most of the music for (probably not the lyrics tho). One of the things I dislike most about Waters is that he really stepped on Gilmour's creativity, and I've always considered his guitar work amazing.

Pretty happy about this myself. My son's birthday party is that day of the concert, but hopefully I can catch it on the VCR. The whole thing will be televised, right?

Saw PF on their first tour without Waters, Momentary Lapse of Reason, and then saw Waters on the Radio Kaos tour, and more recently. All very good shows.

I saw them without Waters and it was a phenomenal show. Of course I've always liked David Gilmour more. They had the best sound I've ever heard.

I saw them in 1986 in Lille, France. It was my first big concert, and they just blew me away. I still count it among the top 3 concerts I've ever seen, and I've seen alot.

Am I the only one that was disappointed that the reunion was with Roger Waters, and not Syd Barrett?

The Roger Waters era is too whiney. I think. I mean, the whole Wall album is about how terrible it is to be a rock star. Cry me a river, Roger...

They'd need to FIND Syd Barrett first. And that would be considering he still has two functioning brain cells to rub together...

woohoo! i heard about this a couple of days ago but didn't remember to post it. :)

now the question is, are they getting together for just this show, or is it something more meaningful and long-lasting?

i somehow doubt such a thing is *possible*, let alone likely.

you do know he was singing largely about Syd right? ;)

true dat. Wish You Were Here was the tribute to Syd (think about the title...), and the Wall was mostly about Roger's life, with some of Syd's life experiences thrown in. Animals was a rant about various things in society. Final Cut i've actually never heard. Dark Side was the last true collaberration they had as a band before they become something of a back-up band for Roger's lyrics. ;)

Not going to respond to every individual post, but I don't think there's going to be a world tour or anything. They've been apart for 20-something years. Gilmour didn't seem that well on what I've seen of the DVD he had a few years ago, but about 10 years ago, the Pink Floyd without Waters was pretty awesome, IMHO. I can't say Comfortably Numb from the Pulse album was bad...

Waters is still pretty awesome too - he seems a bit brain damaged at times, but the In the Flesh DVD is great stuff. He's still playing the base, but he's surrounded himself with some great people there.

If Gilmour/Wright/Mason can play like they did for Pulse, and Waters can be like he was in In the Flesh, it'll be quite the treat...with all the groups going there, I'm sure there will be a DVD of it sometime.

And about Syd Barrett, we know where he is. I don't remember the name of the town, but it's in England somewhere. He's better than he was, except I think he has a nearly phobic aversion to playing music now. He quit back then, and he hasn't started again, and I severely doubt he ever will again. But otherwise, he's still conscious and all, he even rereleased some of his solo material a few years ago - I think the album was called Wouldn't You Miss Me?
