Gauging interest in a one-shot of this excellent starter adventure for Pirate Borg.
I've run the adventure multiple times and it may be my favorite starter adventure for any system, covering every aspect of Pirate Borg but naval combat.
Players wouldn't need any experience with Pirate Borg or copies of the book. (It's an excellent game, though, so if you needed an excuse to buy a copy, I'm happy to provide it.)
Although it's a far cry from a DCC level 0 funnel, I have never run this adventure without several characters dying along the way, so it's helpful that there's an online character generator.
Limithron, the studio behind the game, also has a free online rules reference cheat sheet and other resources, including a character creation guide.
For those who are new to Pirate Borg, it uses the same minimalist d20-derived system as Mork Borg, but with an additional stat and, obviously, piratical classes, setting and so on.
Tonally, the game is essentially a horror comedy. The Dark Caribbean is in the midst of an apocalypse that will take decades to complete, but right now, features undead, tentacle monsters and more. But the real life horrors of piracy -- pirates were deeply intertwined with the slavery trade and sexual violence and exploitation definitely was a big part of the real-world colonial Caribbean -- are strictly off the table. You should be laughing and maybe a little grossed out, but you shouldn't ever feel actually uncomfortable playing a game of Pirate Borg or make others feel uncomfortable.
The setting helps enforce this: When European explorers arrived in what we know of as the Caribbean, they found the islands full of empty ruins, with the natives gone in response to -- or the victims of -- a zombie apocalypse. But someone discovered that the powdered remains of the undead are a magical drug called Ash, so the great powers remain in the Caribbean, vying for control of a region that is definitely beyond their ability to fully conquer. Buried in the Bahamas touches on all of this in only a minimal fashion, but is definitely set in the Dark Caribbean.
My goal would be to have six players, each posting about every other day. (Life and work happen, just don't go MIA for long periods without letting everyone else know what's up.) There are lots of opportunities to replace players if/when people drop out (like I said, characters do die in this adventure), so if more people want to play, I'll have a waiting list and reach out to folks on it as openings arise.
