So this Solar is the advisor of an epic-level NPC who wants to summon evil deities to the material plane, huh ?

Not advisor, he is also his drinking buddy. You know, like in the joke, "A Solar, an epic-level NPC who wants to summon evil deities to the material plane and an epic level forsaker go into a bar..."

I forget which Dragon mag this PrC was in and I forget the name, but it is basically an Anti-divine magic PrC. The husband was a cleric who lost his faith when he realized that gods are naught but overpowered, pompus mortals who have trancended the mortal coil. The PrC gives the character back their casting powers eventually - Zantresh draws his power from the same place the gods draw their power.

The solar was friends with the guy when he was still a cleric, and that friendship remains even though Zantresh (the husband) doesn't like gods. They talk about philosophy and theology, among other things, over spiced wine apparently.

Zantresh doesn't want to summon demons, devils et al; his wife made him do it. Nor does he want the evil deities to come to the material - he just has the artifact that will stop the deity. It was a present from his wife.

Zappo: I'd be afraid of the forsaker too!

Horacio: No soup or flowchart for YOU! :D

From what the cleric of Heronious said, this particular solar was as close to renegade as solars could get. The only thing that is stopping him from being a renegade is his 100% genetic incapability of rebelling.

Or so explained the DM.

Basically it was another consequence of failing in a mission given us by the husband and wife earlier in the campaign. And did we ever botch that one up.

But yeah, it wasn't terribly solar-esque of him.
