Pit traps and flying creatures

If a creature with the ability to fly(good manuverability) were walking and triggered a pit trap, would it help them avoid it, or would they fall as normal? Also, does the SRD have the chart listing the different flying mobility types?

They'd fall, of course. They're walking and the ground dropped out from under them.

But, given that they have good maneuverability, they can hover (provided they have enough space to fly!). So, the floor drops, they react quickly (a Dex check, perhaps?) and they recover. Since they can fly straight up without problem, they get out of the hole relatively easily.

You can find the appropriate part of the SRD here; do a search for "flight" to go right to it: http://www.wizards.com/d20/files/v35/CarryingandExploration.rtf

I don't think there is a rule for this, but if you have ever seen a small bird blown off a branch due to an unexpected wind, you'll notice that they recover pretty quickly.

I would suggest something like the 5 feet fall of the Ring of Feather Fall where the flying creature recovers and then flies up.

Less than 5 feet, maybe a +2 synergy bonus to the Reflex save for falling in.

This could also be dependent on circumstances. For example, a narrow pit where a flying creature with wings could not spread them out might result in a lower initial Reflex save, but if you miss the save, you cannot fly out or something.

I would say that they avoid the trap, letting the fly kick in immediately.
