Planescape character question

Ingot

First Post
I was hoping someone here could help me out. I read the book Blood Hostage when it first came out, and in that book there was a character whos name I can't remember.

Anyway, it was a wizard-like character, but he was described as "a flying sting ray" ... does anyone remember what this characters name was and does anyone know if they ever made an actual race based off of him?

Thanks in advance.

That is how i kind of invisioned them, but this thing was clearly different.
Well those books made up a lot of their own stuff that didn't exactly follow Planescape fluff. It's been 10 years since I read them. I barely remember the character you are talking about. But I don't think it was an actual D&D monster. I can't think of any Sting-Ray creatures other than the Ixachitl.

The character was named Krim. But as other people have said, those books made up a lot of stuff that didn't keep to the setting, and that particular character was one of them.

Yeah, Krim .... thanks!

Thanks for the rest of the information too. I assumed he was made up, I guess I was just always hoping they made a race based on him. I thought he was pretty cool and one of my favorite parts of the first book.

I haven't read the book (the Blood War trilogy got bad reviews among Planescape fans, so I skipped it), but flying sting rays in D&D include:

- Cloakers
- Mantari
- Lurkers Above
- Sinisters
- Chososions (vaguely)
- Fundamentals (even more vaguely)

Ixitxachitl and ixchen (their underdark equivalents) do not fly, unless you consider swimming to be a sort of flying.

Ack, I was thinking Cloakers....oops

While we're on the topic, what was Krim's role in the book anyway? I remember there being a Sting-Ray creature but I don't remember what he did in the book. Now you have me curious :p

Like Rip, I haven't read the book because of the reviews it had.

But the closest to a "flying stingray" I can think of is the Slasrath. Except they're not very intelligent and they're mostly used as flying mounts by yugoloths in Gehenna. Although an intelligent, magic using one of those would admittedly be kinda cool, if rather offbeat.

Krim was the witty sidekick who cast spells. I just remember him being funny, and there is a moment at the end of the first book where shows a very valiant side.
