Are Planescape Fans Abnormal, Even Among Gamers?

Are Planescape fans "normal" gamers?

If you consider yourself a Planescape fan, is it because you are a little too far outside the mainstream among roleplayers?

I'm honestly not sure how to answer. I love me the Planescape, as it plays into a lot of my strengths as a GM: politics, city based, high magic, philosophical quandries, and (just ask Rodrigo) funny voices. So do a lot of other people, though. I'm not sure that makes me stand out.

All I can speculate on is how I appear to others, as I've never met any other PS fan in person.

So, am I a normal gamer? Well I'm a white male, I'm on the skinny side, I have asthma and another chronic condition that most people have never heard of, I'm short-sighted, I'm good at math, I can be socially awkward, and I can quote much of LotR. I don't know if that makes me a normal gamer, but I'm pretty sure that makes me a walking stereotype. B-)

I'm normal. My gaming group tells me that. My girlfriend tells me that. Even my friend Pinkamina Diane Pie says that to me.

Planescape is a little unusual for D&D; it strikes me as a light attempt at tapping into the goth culture of the '90s - perhaps to take back a piece of the pie that drew WoD players away from D&D.

However, I don't think Planescape players are any different from other gamers. They're just pretending to be tiefling peelers instead of pointy-eared elves.

I'm far from what seems to be the standard gamer. Using the same standard fantasy races because that's what everyone else does smacks of laziness to me. While PS can be a Multiversal Sink, it did at least vary the base "Outsider" PC races. Because I'm not really a hack and slasher (mostly because video games will always be better at mindless violence than tabletop RPG), I like that it was a setting that really made you think. Unfortunately, the more I think about it, the more I feel D&D wasn't the right chassis.
