Huh yes they do. You only slow down once within a mile of the planet, so it takes like 10 to 15 minutes to land or take off.
This is not true. Astral Adventurer's Guide page 17

"A spelljamming ship automatically slows to it's flying speed(discussed later in this chapter) when it comes close to something big enough to have its own air envelope and gravity..."

A planet's air envelope and gravity start many miles up. Here on Earth for instance, space doesn't start until 62 miles above sea level. That's about 18 hours to take off or land for a Spelljamming ship, especially on a larger than Earth planet with more atmosphere.

Also from the Astral Adventurer's Guide: "A spelljamming ship automatically slows to its flying speed (discussed later in this chapter) when it comes within 1 mile of something weighing 1 ton or more, such as another ship, a kindori (see Boo’s Astral Menagerie), an asteroid, or a planet."

Edit: Ah, I see the issue -- this text was amended in the November 2022 errata.

Looks like that was changed.

That makes more sense, and is I suspect the reason for the landing/ascending time disconnect between folks.

That's fine for digital copies, but not for those of us who have print copies. They should have playtested the Spelljamming.

I guess that is one of the reasons because the translations have to be released later.

Now I am thinking about Gate-town demiplanes. These megalopolis wouldn't be in Outlands, but next, or maybe within, the plane of the mirrors. Let's imagine one of them just discovered by three worlds, Union (demiplane created by the arcanes to trade), the factions of Sigil and the guilds from Ravnica.

* Now I am imigining a prison demiplane with an incarnation of Thazirdum, the elemental eye, as ruler and prison, but with a wicked twist, and it is totally invaded by the "sheens", living machines and biomechanical horrors but adapted to the elemental traits. The place would be an eternal fight.

Or when they were just copy-and-pasting the old 2e rules, copied the whole thing rather than only part of it. These weren't even new flying rules to playtest, it was just the same old 2e stuff ported over, but leaving out a pretty important piece.
