i'm going to have to have a look at that. :) i wonder how much they've done for monsters; we've done plenty at the Creature Catalog, but there are so many left to go.

So my question to all of you is, what do you all think of the work being done at Planewalker.com?

I wrote chapter 7 for Planewalker (Sigil), and I'd like to think that folks think it a fitting tribute to the previous material, though I hold no illusions about being up to the same level as the original. Not by any means.

Yes, more is on the way, however I've been derailed more or less by a little something called a thesis that I've been writing. Grad school has given the finger to my creativity lately. :heh:

We've got some new section managers recently and they've been getting folks motivated, the website has been redone and looks snazzy, and there's multiple new and/or reopened sections. Take a look at the 'Cutters' section with 3.5 updates for some of the iconic and more noted NPCs of the setting like my namesake and Seamusxanthuszemus, merchant most excellent-slayer of fiends-and purveyor of death, aka that mephit with the hat. ;)

As I've been saying for years on this board (and years and years) :) , give Planescape to Monte!
I vaguely recall seeing a message board post or an interview or something like that from Monte where he said that he wasn't really interested in working on a new Planescape - he'd rather be working on stuff that's all his, and not updating the stuff he did seven years ago. Then again, now that he's weighed in on the thread, he could confirm or deny this, in case my memory's faulty.

Wow. Does that ever bring some memories flodding back.

I used to be co-head of "Cutters" all the way back in 2e and the start of 3e. It just so happened that when the site went through its massive "hiatus" my play group also split up and I pretty much stopped playing D&D.

I'm back now, (of course) but doubt I'd have the time to help the old crew out anymore. Life just isn't the same now as it was 3-5 years ago.

Why does it need to be "back in print"? Just buy all the 2e stuff and use it.

I have over 20 Planescape books, including the boxed set. All can be had on ebay or perhaps a FLGS.

Sheeeesh, you consumer-types. ;)

I've never been a fan of Planescape, though I did DM it for a while back in the day. It changed the Outer Planes into something less mystical and just plain weird. For me, it spoiled the nature of the Planes and the creatures that swell there.

IWhat's more, it's too damn easy to convert the 2E stuff to 3.5, so why bother?
That's where I am too. Out of the whole 2e settings barrage that TSR hit us with, I greatly preferred Planescape to any others (although Dark Sun was a nice one too) but it really kind of stands alone right now. It doesn't need more supplements, IMO, and after the passage of so much time, personnel and two shifts in edition, I'd be really surprised to see a Planescape book out there. And if there was one, I'd be even more surprised to see it really work, to be honest with you. I say let Malhavoc, Wizards and whomever else continue to do new stuff, not revisit older material. The older material is usable as is.

It's really a moot point, I think, though. Planescape has been cherrry-picked and the elements of it that have been kept have more or less been integrated into the core cosmology now. Wizards will probably never revisit it for that reason, and will also probably never seriously entertain licensing it for the same reason.

I don't think it's particularly easy to convert from 2e to 3.5e. Fr'instance, I am not entirely happy with many of the planescape conversions I HAVE seen.
