Consider me daunted. I've really only purchased a small handful of things from DMs Guild. I know that I'm missing out on a lot. Heck, in theory I think it's an awesome concept. There's just so much out there, when I start to look at it I'm reminded of the worst glut days of 3e.

I played back in the early days when the only thing available was a box set of basic rules containing an unfinished dungeon. I'm very excited about the fact that the hobby has exploded and there are thousands upon thousands of books, modules, and pamphlets addressing everything under the sun we can imagine. I do get what you are saying, when you are new it looks overwhelming, but that is a greater place to be than in a paucity of options. That being said, back then I didn't think of myself as a D&D pauper, if I didn't have something I created it. There was an excitement then that sometimes I miss, but I wouldn't trade those days for these golden days of gaming for anything.

No, what's actually odd is to dismiss everything in my post, restate a simple preference with no deeper analysis, then act like I'm the one who's socially awkward.

Back on topic - there are practical benefits to updating older campaign settings from time to time for large numbers of players, whether or not you care. One major one is that you are given opportunities to explore those settings through updated adventure modules without having to do a ton of work yourself. Another is that it makes those campaign settings feel like living worlds with narratives that are experienced in a shared way by many people across time and space, which is something many players invest in and enjoy.

So I actually am an academic, imagine my surprise to learn that this is an academic conversation. My colleagues would be very interested in discovering this new definition, let alone that all conversation is supposed to follow this example.

With Modrons in the Monster Manual, A lot of planar information in the DMG, The Bloodwar detailed in Mordenkainen’s Tome and products like Descent into Avernus expanding the fiendish, I wouldn’t hold my breath on a Planescape setting, not even a Manual of the Planes.

Would it be possible to see it in exactly the opposite way? That these small offerings are in fact recognition within WotC that there is still ample interest in Planescape, and that the setting might be getting internal attention over that fact? I'm not trying to naysay you here, you could very well be right, but could it be possible?

Planescape theoretically is fine as well but someone will complain about heaven, hell or whatever.

I hadn't thought about this. It makes my stomach turn a little, but things are the way they are.

Only the Realms constantly got nuked and people didn't mind it seems.

I must run in very different circles than you. I've met a few folks who were good with it, but by far more disliked the various armageddon scenarios.

In the past Dragonlance heroes were the most famous and popular characters from D&D franchise. Only a fool would say not to the revival. I would bet Hasbro wants a future videogame based in Dragonlance, although with the option of playing non-canon characters.

You aren't wrong, but my follow up question is are they still? We already talked about the new demographics of the WotC customer base, does this younger crowd remember Tannis, Goldmoon, or Raistlin? Is there enough recognition there to push them into pushing that IP into new products? I don't have the answer to my questions, but it's what popped into my head reading your post.
