I think it’s fine. I think rule 0 also requires consent. It doesn’t abdicate being a decent person. Realize that may mean different things for different tables. I think this is a special enough case to highlight.

The book is meant for a variety of tables and styles.o

@DarkCrisis
Lots of posts here and I couldn't read them all, but wanted to chime in that the warning could just be there to avoid another PR incident. It's not hard to imagine the unflattering social-networking conversations that would be flying around if they DIDN'T put the blurb in.

The strongly worded stance is obnoxious to me, but again, anything less would just give others holes to punch through to write a "Why WOTC's New Adventure Completely Disregards Player's Agency and Why that's Problematic" headline.

Let’s change the example shall we?

In an Adventure Path (or perhaps a home brew campaign, doesn’t matter) the Dm declares after x amount of time, your pc must have a love interest and you must describe and play out that love interest.

All you folks who are going on about how the dm should be able to impose conditions on the pcs should be totally groovy with that, right? No problems?

A better example is you fail a save or whatever and then fall in love (charm?) with the NPC.

You can apparently avoid the mutation effect in the game through normal play.

It’s been decades since I was a player, but if the love interest - for a fair comparisons sake - is an Illithid, I would do it with gusto.
