Player powergaming: mea culpa

Do you have a character concept rather than an arbitrary set of abilities? Yes. Are you enjoying running this PC? Yes. Are the other players enjoying playing their PCs in the game with yours? I assume yes.

Actually, quite so. They aren't miffed at all by my PC, they don't feel like they're walking in his shadow. They encourage me to make maximum use of my abilities in combat, especially since last game they saw the new unluck spell from CA in action.

If so, then all I will tell you is - game on! Cheese, forsooth!

Ar !

So? What's your point?

I have none. I just wanted to confess and to invite others to do so if they feel so inclined. Thought it would make for a fun thread.

Sorry. I didn't RTFOP. Now all you have to do to really powergame is go quest for a dire werebear to get bitten by. Celestial dire werebear, if possible.

Wow. You're better than me at this, aren't you...

Your right, there are a lot of people who would call you a munchkin, powergamer, cheesemonger, etc... But i'm not one of them. The rules and class combo' are there for you to use unless your DM says otherwise. Using them to make your character surviveable and powerful enough to survive and prosper as an adventurer (one of the deadliest jobs out there) within the context of the rules is not a bad thing. Having fun is never wrong as long as it isn't at the expense of others.

I tried to powergame. I made a bad-ass Flachion-wielding Goliath Barbarian/Fighter. He was mean...

And then I compared him to the Vow-of-Poverty Half-Dragon monk another player made.

My optimized 30-STR killing machine has a 25% chance of hitting the monk with his best attack.

I scrapped that character.

Sweet. Stored for further reference.

Actually, why don't I use THAT as an NPC evil assassination cult in the campaign I DM.

Hot damn, my players will loathe me for eons !

:D

I am playing a character I never thought I would stoop down to play: a Sorceror Paladin.

I really like him. He's a Pal 2/ Sorc 8, Practised Spellcaster, and 3 draconic feats. I have a +6 Cha item and +5 prot cloak (no other items to speak of though, AC 18). It's kinda obscene when you come to think of it. I'm raining death from above (Draconic Flight) all the time, and the few times critters launch something at me, I make my save.

To add insult to injury, my next 5 levels will be in the Fatespinner PrC (CA).

That said, I did make an effort to make the whole a coherent thing. I play him as a descendent of dragons, his god is Bahamut, and I took the Draconic Breath feat just for flavor (my spells do more damage and are more efficient). So he's basically a holy arcanist of bahamut, human, but with golden hair (gold dragon heritage), forked tongue, and draconic eyes (slit pupils).

No matter what you guys will tell me, I still intend to play him, but I have to say I kept telling myself "cheese" while rolling him...

I haven't seen the 3.5 Fatespinner, but the 3.0 version was seen by many as "weak". (I would have tossed out the save DC boosting abilities and given it back some caster levels ... but not all ... but I can't comment on the 3.5 version.)

Anyway, you had to give up two sorcerer levels to access the "cheese" ... that's not too cheesy, IMO.

Okay, here's my confession - I powergame as a player and as a DM. And I help other players to powergame too, and optimize their characters with powerful magic items, feats, PrCs, etc. And then we all roleplay the heck out of our characters and have a blast. Man, I love this game!
