D&D General Players: Do You Care From Whence Your DM Gets His Monsters/Challenges?

I don't really care where the DM gets their monster/challenges - that's their business.

My players using various sources, as DM, I certainly do care. I don't like letting players use any material I haven't vetted and rarely allow other's homebrew - the balance/lore on a lot is usually out of my comfort zone.

Somewhat interestingly (to me at least) I find that i really don't care where players get their character building stuff. I mean, it is nice if they run it by me, but if we are playing 5E I don't care if players want to use a 2014, A5E, ToV or 2024 version of a class or whatever. It isn't like everything in the core book is properly balanced. Normally, though, I am running on Fantasy grounds and what player facing books I own on that platform are what choices they have access to.

As long as they understand it. Had GMs pull out some monster combo they got off Reddit, we blow through it without breaking a sweat, then hear the GM say "oh, dang, forgot to use the special! That would have gone completely differently!"

And the flip side, some "invulnerable annihilator" that ignores/regenerates all damage for 3 rounds while doing a ton of damage but on round 4 turn into brittle glass. Which can be fine, as long as the plot doesn't have such a tight deadline that we have no choice but to push through 12 prior encounters so the PCs arrive bloodied, out of healing and low on spells. Blam, tpk.

If so, why?
Yes, because I know many 3PP creatures and such are not well-balanced to the game IME.

Also because I see most D&D settings as fairly unified. I know (for the most part) what to expect and look forward to it. If a DM commonly uses creatures they made up or from 3PP then it breaks immersion for me--I suddenly find myself in a world I don't recognize even though my PC should in general.

Once in a while it is fine, but for myself not on a regular basis.

Just an idle curiosity.

If you are playing D&D (any edition, but 3e on have more options in this regard), do you care about where your DM is getting their monsters and stuff? in other words, do you expect or desire your DM to use official monsters? Do you have concerns if they are using 3rd party monster books? Homebrewing monsters? Does it matter if they are using Grimtooth's traps or similar?

If so, why?

If not, is that universal or are there sources that would worry you?

Thanks.

I do not care at all. I like seeing some classic monsters for nostalgia, but I also like brand new things I knew nothing about. When I DM though I do care the monster is usable, and vaguely balanced for that challenge rating.
