Players from Hell.

Ah yes.

All these crappy, self-destructive or anti-social characters are the reason why the Player's Guide to Dehlos (My homebrew world) clearly states, in bold text, that characters must have a firm reason to be adventuring with the rest of the group, cannot be Chaotic Neutral without a damned good reason and cannot be a problem for the group, or they will be disallowed or removed.

"If you can't come up with a good reason for your character to be adventuring with the rest of the group, then scrap the character concept and start over."

Been through the jerkwater "I just want to mess with people" characters and players quite enough, thank you. They are no longer welcome at my gaming table.

Back when we were playing in a French Resistance Cell (see the Minneapolis/St. Paul thread), aka a small group of closely knit friends, I might have had to put up with some of this. But right now I have -8- potential players for my upcoming campaign, without extending an open invitation on this board. So the rule is; Play Nice or Go Home.

We had a group of about 8 players, one of the women players slept with the DM who was married, his wife found out.

Needless to say, the game broke up for awhile. :)

Cretin is another word originally referring to a cultural group (Christians).

I thought the ancient Greeks didn't like the people from Crete, and began using it as an insult (like we did with Pollock back in elementary school. Heck, I learned "Pollock" meant stupid before I even knew there was such a thing as Polland). We're probably all guilty of this to one extent or another, even if we don't realize it.

Wow. I was in a group (playing various D&D and Cyberpunk campaigns) where the DM slept with one of the player's girlfriends.

I knew full well that Poland existed when I made Polack jokes. Since I am 1/4th Polish, I felt free to do so with impunity. There was another Polish kid who went with it as well.

Cretin comes from vulgar Latin through French.

Ugh, I didn't really want to bring this up - but basically early Romans largely viewed Christians as being very ignorant. Some of the commentary about them is pretty scathing.

I was in a group where the player sleeping with the DM's cousin broke up the group.

I was that player....nope, still don't feel bad about it.
