Player's Handbook II (and other May releases)

I am hoping for new races. Hi,Phil! :)

New races and classes would be cool. Basically, I'd like to see the chapters match those in the first PHB -- just with new information in each one.

And hi! :)

Just think: if they start including and, more importantly, revising the classes from the complete series, this will signal the SECOND revision of 3e to date.

Now I can't wait to buy the same book for a THIRD time.

I don't know if they are going to do a literal reprint of the 15 classes and 7 races that have appeared in various D&D books. They MIGHT reprint a few, but mostly I see some new races, classes, feats, skill uses, spells, items, and tactics/tips.

Course, IF they were to reprint, I'd like (wotc pay attention): Goliath in the races, spellthief, healer, marshal, scout, warlock, hexblade, swashbuckler, and spirit shaman in the classes. That said, I'd rather new stuff than old reprints.

Probably getting it if it looks good.

Something I found very useful as someone who doesn't have an intuitive grasp at powergaming, or min-maxing, Goodman Games' The Power Gamer's 3.5 Warrior Strategy Guide was fantastically useful. I would hope that something similar is done in the PHB II for each class' forte(s). I don't mean showing the most tricked out version of any one archetype. But, rather showing what to pay attention to within each class' capabilitie how to get the most out of them.

On a related tangent, showing how to build cooperative parties. That might include how a late addition to a table of players could look at the characters already in the party to design a character that brings a useful addition.

I'm have a hunch there might be a lot more about battlegrid tactics.

If there are going to be reprints of old material, or expansions on older material in other non-Core accessories, I would hope for things like:

• Compiling the classes from the Complete series and the Mini's Handbook
• Compiling all of the non-magic equipment, weapons, and armor from the scattered accessories
• Related to the armor from scattered sources, rejigger the armor table so that there are sufficiently compelling armors besides chain shirt, breastplate, and full plate
• Compiling all of the "other uses for existing skills", and coming up with new "other uses" for skills that haven't already been touched upon sufficiently
• Compiling every skill synergy and coming up with new ones for as many Craft, Profession, and Perform subskill that can be imagined in a typical D&D setting.

I can't speculate on what will actually be in the book, but I would definately be interested in something aimed at giving intermediate players a better understanding of how the game works. Specifically, I would like something I could give to semi-new players to try to provide them some of the knowledge that an experienced gamer has. Some topics that would be nice:

-Rough estimation of monster stats such as touch AC
-Being able to tell powerful options from weak ones
-Bringing attention to several effective tactics for each class

In a nutshell, something like a higher level DnD for Dummies. YMMV.

If Wizards make a successful product, it means they made something people wanted. That seems a good business outcome to me. :)

Cheers!

Merric,

The title above your picture ("Official ENworld Optimist") couldn't be more true.....Sometimes it's just sickening to those "glass half empty" types like me. :p

All kidding aside, It's actually quite refreshing - just don't let it reach "apologist-fanboy-fever-pitch" if the PHB II happens to stink !

Player's Handbook II, Excellent!

I suspect we'll see adjusted races to get rid of ECL and LA. We'll see racial levels for elves, dwarves, etc. We'll see elves get a +2 to int. Perhaps the Half-orc redone. How to play a balanced half-ogre right from the get go. Stuff like that. We'll see new feats, skill usage, and spells.

I don't think the classes will be messed with that much. Perhaps we'll see some new ones. I'd like that.

This is my prediction. And I hope it's accurate.

Personally, I hope for some useful information on creating classes and races ;) I think the one major flaw in d20 is that there's no official toolkit on how to build things ... there's bits and pieces here and there, but I'd love to see some mechanics behind making a balanced class, as well as a races :D

:D

There are few D&D books I can't find something good about. The exception is Map Folio II. (Which should be avoided at all costs).

Cheers!

Thanks for being the "Official" Optimist, Merric! Thanks, also, for answering my question on Frostburn! I have both it, and Stormwrack on order, now, awaiting delivery!

(WotC, that's two more sales for the "Official" Optimist!)

:D

Gee, I hope you get a bonus, or something, MB...
