Playing a warforged...

Vorput

First Post
So I'm playing a warforged.... never have before... never even played eberron before (and still won't have- this is a homebrew world with some elements of ebberon incorporated).

My stats (which i used the organic method to get) are
STR: 14
DEX: 12
CON: 18
INT: 9
WIS: 11
CHA: 9

For my first feat I took adamantine body and a level of ranger- basically for the ability to use healing wands (since we don't have an divine spellcasters in the group), and some extra skill points- and after this plan on going for fighter.

My DM allowed me to take exotic weap prof. [spiked chain] in exchange for wild empathy.

I dunno if I'm going to continue using a spiked chain... it's such a cheap weapon.. but he offered- so I thought I'd keep my options open.

Basic story is that I was created a tracker/ bounty hunter, and was injured in a batle- left to sit for a hundred years till the party recently found me.

So, how do I make 'Dalek XVIII' a good warforged? Any ideas? Feats? alternate class other than fighters? Prestige Classes? Etc. Rest of the party will be 2 scouts, a rogue, and a warlock.

Holy "Expert" party, batman!

3 of 5 characters are Rogue variants, and the Ranger is on the borderline of 'expert' and 'fighter'.

I love running campaigns like that, I just hope your DM also handles it well and adjusts the games to suit the characters, otherwise your lack of both arcane and divine spellcasting is going to HURT.

You have to watch out, because those healing wands you can use as a Ranger aren't very useful for you - you are going to have to also pick up a bunch of potions of repair light damage OR pick up a few levels of artificer so you can heal yourself on the fly.

Warforged Artificers are so incredibly useful that even the big bad-guy warforged has levels in the class, although he's a fighter mostly. So definitely look into that, even if just in the name of self-preservation.

The spiked chain is a decent weapon even if you take no other feats for it. Just the variable reach is useful.

Right.

Also the warlock will most likely be better at using wands. The class has UMD as a class skill and gets the ability to take 10 on a UMD skill check (when using magic items) at 4th level {Deceive Item} - which is maxing out UMD by that level it is pretty close to an automatic success.

I'm highly amused by the char name.

Your group should probably talk things over and figure out which two of you are going to specialize in UMD.

If playing strictly by the rules, you have to be careful.

Warforged are Favored Class Fighter.

So, if you take Ranger and Artificer, you have to keep those two classes within one of each other. You can take Ranger 2 before taking Artificer 1, but if you take Ranger 3 before Artificer 1, you will get hit with the XP penalty.

Yes. Somebody is obviously a Dr. Who Fan. Although I could be wrong, but is it Dalek or Dahlek on the series?

I thought Dahlek- but when I checked the Dr. Who wiki, it was spelled Dalek... so I went with that ;)

Note also that Adamantine Plating is treated as Heavy Armour, which will mess up several of your Ranger abilities. Either go for a heavier fighter-type, or perhaps switch to Mithral Plating.

Yeah- I don't think I'll continue in ranger... I chose it for two reasons- backstory (I was created as a hunter/tracker) and the more mechanical reason of needing to have the ability to use healing wands... I may change over to straight fighter though- and just rely on our warlock for the UMD checks...

How about you are confused after your long sleep and cannot stick to any one carear path for long.

Warforged Ranger 2 (to follow in your makers footsteps)/Divine mind 1 (creation mantle, thinking about helping your party, hurt your foes and heal yourself. pick the diety that reminds you the most of your maker, whether you actually remember or not, that also has the creation mantle)/Fighter 2 (fighting prowess)/Rogue 2 (helps on tracking and whatever other skills you need at the time, bonus points for picking up craft and stealth)/etc.

That could be a pretty fun character. Plus, you pick up a lot of abilities along the way. None of it is terribly strong but it is fun.

I think that some of the incarnum classes that would also be fun to add. One of which works off of con I believe.
