Plot to blow up transatlantic flights foiled

So, like errata in our gamebooks, we have to live with terrorism?
Us Brits have been living with terrorism for a while now. In a way, it just becomes another risk - like driving, or walking across the road.

Cheers,
Liam

Yeah, but you know the other drivers on the road are not out to get you, or make you a symbolic target.

And, it should be noted that in the USA, the current risks of terrorism are far, far lower than those of driving.

*nods* I've known that for awhile. It really does make you think.

Impossible.

Since terrorism is so easy, it speaks well for security intelligence to be able to fish out these people before they cause problems. How do you catch a person with a water bottle full of explosives? The culprits must have ticked off security by some other means.

According to what I heard, British intelligence services noticed that someone had made large donations to private accounts (as opposed to a registered charity) in the aftermath of the earthquake in that region, and asked Pakistani authorities to investigate.

You know, with some of the driving I see, I'm not so sure! ;)

On a more serious note, I was trying to keep my comments politics-free, which is why I only said that it was another risk and nothing about the nature of, or reasons for the risk.

Cheers,
Liam

Good discussion. I'm happy this is staying in 'no politics' domain. :D
If anyone does want to discuss the politics side, ENW's sister site, Circvs Maximvs has a couple of threads currently active. The main one is here: http://www.circvsmaximvs.com/showthread.php?t=7475

Please note that different rules apply over there - specifically, there is no "grandma-friendly" standard, and discussion of politics and religion is allowed. Think of it as having a vigorous debate in your local pub, and you won't go far wrong.

Cheers,
Liam

I've always taken water onto planes. I hope those stewardesses can bring me a pitcher...

Methinks it's a conspiracy that the airlines are having so as to make you buy their bottled water instead of bringing your own.... :p

I don't see what the danger is in lip balm and various other cosmetics.... unless you're MacGyver....

The main Q would be if you can take that stuff in checked luggage... most people aren't going where they can replenish those essentials.

I dunno. Some of the in-house food establishment are wondering if it's okay to sell beverages, particularly in bottles or cans inside the airport?

Well, from what they learned, the terrorists were going to smuggle the components for the peroxide-based explosive in such containers, mostly in liquid and gel form, then mix it in the plane until it becomes an effective weapon. I wouldn't be surprised if they made the components solid like lipstick or powdery like rouge blushes.

For now, they're banning the items from your carry-ons. If you still have your luggage to be checked in, you can pack your items -- especially expensive stuff like perfume -- before hand over to the check-in clerk.

Unless terrorists have found a way to get into the cargo hold of the airplane.
