Plotter? Hmmm...

Let's say that, purely hypothetically, I wanted to use the plotter at work to print out a huge sheet of hex paper.* How would you go about doing it?

Well, the first thing is to find out what file types it supports for printing and if it has the ability to enlarge the image in the file.

Once you know that you can plot out what program you are going to generate the hex sheet in and what size you need to make the graphic.

Hmmm. It can do scaling. Unfortunately, this is a windows environment so we have to work with those limitations. We can't just cat the file directly to the printer.

We probably don't want to mess with bitmap scaling. So I guess I'd need a huge bitmap ... or try to figure out a way to get proper vector scaling.

I can produce a PDF of any paper size with any size hexes in about 2 minutes flat, all vector. If you'd like just let me know and I'll happily do so.

Oh, and if you do please let me know if you want the "straight line" hexes to run horizontally or vertically (that is in one direction or the other the hexes line up in long rows or columns that are parallel to the paper edge).

Thanks, I'll have to see what paper size the plotter uses. I think it's a 36" wide roll.

There's a setting for 34" x 44" paper. Is that doable?

I don't have Autocad (if the question was directed at me).

Thanks! These look great.

1" hexes is exactly what I wanted. I didn't really have a preference on the orientation.

I'll let you know how it comes out. :)
