Ah, that I understand. I would say, though, that warblade was Rich's, the crusader was Orcus's, and the swordsage was a compromise between the two, or a third left-over idea. The reason I say this is because I think I remember a quote by Mearls talking about card-drawing and a whole new 'mini-game' - and that sounds like the crusader to me.

It's all idle speculation, I guess, unless we were to send Rich a PM.

No, please. I really hate the random, strategy destructive recovery mechanic of the crusader.
I want strategy in my Power use, no: Oh, let's see what I can do this round.
If there is an encounter recovery mechanic at all...

I cannot think the fluff of a wizard, who didn't know what spells he got in the the encounter.

I think you misunderstood me. I don't believe that 4E will now have any recovery mechanism - certainly not the crusader's random and infuriating recovery mechanic. However, I believe that the original recovery mechanic they were planning to use was the crusaders - and it's experiences like yours that convinced them not to go through with it.

Ok, sorry.

This is just the kind of Mini-Game I don't like :(

Based on the limited information we have in regards to things like critical hits and the disdain for power attack, I would bet money that in 99.9% of the cases, if two options are providied, one that reeks of 'cool' and another that smells of simplification, they'll go for the latter.

Huh? How is the new critical hit system less "cool" than the previous one? Heck, is it even simpler, once you take into account extra dice added for certain weapon types and so on? It's FASTER to play (fewer rolls), and they seem to think it's also cooler, because rolling a 20 is a guaranteed payoff rather than a possible disappointment.

Same for Power Attack. The problem with PA wasn't that it's too complicated, but rather that its mechanics don't fit its in-game intended "feel." Why should I need to take a statistics class to effectively play a "Hulk Smash" barbarian? And can you honestly say that PA is made "cooler" by forcing you to calculate or guess at the optimal amount to add each turn?

So can someone clarify for me what the deal is with recovery for per encounter powers?

In Bo9S all three classes have some ability to recover (make ready for reuse) their maneuvers/powers during an encounter.
In SWSaga the Force Powers are per encounter, but on a natural 20 for a "Use Force" Skill chech, you recover all used powers.

There is NO indication that this will be possible in 4e.

That's what I'm asking, so in 4th Ed there is no recovery mechanic for per encounter powers, you simply refresh them after an encounter?

So once you've used up your per encounter powers in an encounter, you are restricted to your at will and per day powers?

For instance, a girdle of giant strength could give you the abilty 3/day to make a str check as if you had a 25 str. That would be very cool & thematic without screwing up your combat balance.
So you'd go from everyone wanting it to noone wanting it?

glass.

The Girdle of Giant Strength will most likely give you a bonus to hit & damage with melee weapons, and possibly some other strength-related bonus.

This means that you're not suddenly recalculating all the strength-dependent stats... just a knowable subset.
